This bill is a violation of individual rights.

The GOP has become a party of willful stupidity.

No it's not wearing mask was to protect you from others germs, and you didn't have to wear it on outside it was only in stores or restaurants

What pointless and unconstitutional virtue signaling.

What if there’s a wildfire?

Knowing the GOP, they'd try to spread it, and then immediately blame someone else for it.

I don´t like "always mask leftists", but this is too much. People with health canditions do exist.

Politicians are so eager these days to get up in people's faces (literally) and tell them what to do!  Very bad trend.  Let people do what they want - this is a free country goshdernit.  FREEDOM should be our national word.

I just imagine how ignorant it makes people look. In East Asia (Japan/SK) people always wear masks out when they’re sick out of a belief of “we before me” but in Murcia, especially conservative Murcia it’s just “all about me” from the me generation that voted this in.

And exactly accomplishes what?

Just seems like a silly "gotcha!" move. It's one thing to ban local authorities or businesses to impose any mask mandates at this point, but banning masks for people who voluntarily wear them is ridiculous. Hasn't the state bigger issues to solve?

I guess it's time to wear a mask in NC as an act of civil disobedience. The legality of this law if it passes should be tested.

The rhetoric around this, fyi, has made it pretty clear that the intent around this is to give police a greenlight to arrest protestors wearing masks, even though it's substantially broader in wording.

Can you elaborate a bit on the relation of southeastern Spain to all of this?

The bill is obviously unconstitutional, and I don’t think it warrants discussion beyond that.

The idea behind the bill is the worry that the health exception of the current mask ban enables people to hide their identity while engaging in riots and destructive protests.

At least in public accommodations and employment settings, wouldn't this violate the federal ADA?

Don't worry about it -it would either die in the House, or be vetoed by the Governor, and overturned by the state Supreme Court.  Even with its current configuration.

What does early medieval Mercia have to do with this story?

I would not assume any of these except the veto! The NC Republican Party is foaming at the mouth over the recent protests at UNC Chapel Hill (they already diverted millions of dollars away from DEI to the Campus Police) and there's a desire to take some sort of legislative action.

This bill probably needs some fine-tuning, but I highly doubt that the reason most of the campus protesters wear masks is for actual fear of covid or another illness.

And, I would agree that it's perfectly legitimate for mask wearing to be prohibited in some cases (usually probably at the discretion of a business).  I can absolutely see why somewhere like a bank would want to ban mask wearing for security reasons.
