That sounds like a scene straight out of a horror movie! If I woke up to that, I'd probably be terrified and confused, wondering if it was a dream or if something supernatural was happening. I might scream, hide under the covers, or try to get out of bed as quickly as possible! What about you? How would you react to such a chilling sight?

I had have dreams remarkably similar to the one you experienced. My first thought in this scenario is to first determine if I am fully conscious or if I am still in a dreamlike state. Once this has been established it is critical that I react appropriately to either scenario. If indeed I am still in a dreamlike stance then I would start hyperventilating and quickly move my legs. This is the best path to awaken from a bad dream. I've utilized this tactic with great success. If it is indeed real from my conscious understanding then I once again am presented with two possible scenarios -- I have gone crazy or it is real real. The scenario in which it is real I would start searching for escape routes. Fortunately I am quite good at escape rooms and even managed to impress the staff at some of the escape rooms in the Bakersfield area. Success in this scenario is pivotal. If I have indeed gone crazy then it would be imperative to see a psychiatrist.

apparetnly according to annie jacobsen this happened to some guys back in the 70s who were working on a thing for the pentagon or navy or something, like you know that movie about the guys who stare at goats? those guys

Assuming this is not a false awakening and this is really happening, I imagine I would jump to full alertness and freak tf out. But it would only take a matter of seconds to figure out what was going on so what happens at that point depends on why this arm is there, whether it is real or fake, whether there's somebody else  in the room, etc.

Is the axis of rotation along the arm or perpendicular through it? That might make a difference.
