Former Alabama Judge ROY MOORE will not rule out a 2004 run for the presidency from the far right.

This would hurt Bush big time in swing states.

Roy Moore would be the Nader of 2004, but from the right.

I'm scared of this guy! He's out there and potentially a dangerous statesman from the deep south. Don't let this guy speak!

He won't do it. The guy who really could do some damage is Tom Tancredo, but Tancredo has already endorsed Bush.  I think Roy is going after statewide office. He knows better than to risk it all on a lost cause.  Losing his judgeship wasn't risking it all. It was a calculated chess move.  There's nothing but destruction by a losing effort against Bush.

Just to point out I think pretty much everyone has a right to speak in America so to not let him speak would go aginst the constituion(sorry might have taken that too seriously so if it was a joke sorry)

But he could damage Bush but the equalizer would be Nader I thought he already said he was running in '04 but I might have heard wrong.

I dont know exactly how popular the guy is in the south, however if he runs strong like 15-20% he could throw some deep south states to a democrat, even more likely if the democrats nominate Edwards.

Frankly, I had been trying to find a candidate I could give a damn about for the general election.  I could deal with Edwards given his charisma.  Kerry?  No way.  Then there's Bush, who I don't like and whom, following his budget escapades, needs a challenge from the right.  So, I've been SOL for a little while.  I'd support Moore as a protest to Bush, rather than as a serious contender.  Besides, I think Nader's going to run again as well.

Ironic note: Third parties tend to do better when their counterpart major party is doing either very well or very poorly because then the voters feel less need to support their major party(because it's either sunk or doing fine without them).

He could even win Alabama, be like a George Wallace candidate.

Moore won't be another Wallace... but if he ran he would do far better than Nader did...

I find it quite funny that those outside of the Religious Right (RR) think they know the level of support within the RR for Moore.

When I said that Moore would do better than Nader, I meant he would have a chance of getting over 10% in several states (AL, MS, SC), though I doubt he would win as high a % of the national vote as Nader did.
His vote would be much more concentrated and therefore would be more "important"
Sorry... I have a weird way of thinking sometimes Smiley

BTW Riley's re-election rate is a mere 38%
Sigelman in a cakewalk.

Exactly, he could be a Wallace-like candidate becasue he could poll very very well in the south and get basically nothing everywhere else.

Plus, he could have a cool slogan. "Moore in 04", you don't get that rhyming factor too often.

I do not believe he would win any Southern state.  In MS and AL, he could perhaps get 10%, but Bush would still win these states.  However, he could throw Arkansas and Tennessee to the Democrats.
Also, Moore could get a number of votes in AK or UT, but not enough to matter.

I think he could poll about 6-8% across the South as a whole, and probably 3-5% in the Rockies since most of those states are very conservative(using the Wallace example, those states went more in his favor than most states did, and they also gave the AIP 1-3% in '72).  If Bush wins big, it could also make a mess of the South and he might get the Constitution Party to the 5% mark.

On a sidenote, does anyone recall what happened to the GOP having trouble making the Alabama ballot access laws?  I remember hearing that, since the convention was so late, they were missing the Alabama deadline.  That could get entertaining if Moore's on the ballot and Bush isn't...

A possible Kerry/Edwards ticket... Roy Moore on the cards... who knows, the Democrats may even win a state or two in the South. Grin

Heck, I'm allowed to dream, aren't I.
