Horrible, though entertaining genre.

Dammit, I'm saying freedom genre. Even though the genre is largely cringe and marketed towards middle aged dudes with tribal tattoos in wifebeaters and cargo shorts wearing wrap around sunglasses and drinking monster energy, I will not deny the impact that Korn, Slipknot, and other bands in that oeuvre have had on my life.

Very bipolar genre. Some great bands, some beyond awful.

it's not my generation that did it, but I still blame us.  We told our younger cousins that Soundgarden and Pantera were cool, and they were like "yeah, well we can make them way cooler!"  And then they totally didn't.

I'll say this: Though my HG vote was an easy one, blaming it for Woodstock 99 as the media is now prone to do is absolutely ridiculous and laughable. Woodstock 99 was an absolute disaster in planning and logistics that would've been a complete trainwreck regardless of the music there and blaming any bands is like blaming Blink-182 for the Fyre Festival.

Weird thing is people actually understood this when it happened...only in the last couple years did this bizarre POPULAR WITH WHITE MALES MUSIC BAD narrative develop about it.

It was a Gen X creation, but I'll admit that Millennials are responsible for popularizing it. Although to be fair the younger half of Millennials are also responsible for killing it.

However it made a comeback anyway thanks to...Gen Z and TikTok. So yeah, as is usually the case, blame them.

Somehow during the 2010s a lot of those moral panics about media causing bad behavior came back into the mainstream, and it's gotten worse since then because both the left and right have gone all-in on it.

Totally sucks, but these days just seeing the names of these bands takes me back to 2003 hanging out in the bowling alley with MTV and VHI music videos on TV.  So definitely a nostalgia trip.  I want to go back to the days of Korn on the airwaves, not because they were good, but because I could relive 21 years of my life.

Overhated, but that doesn’t mean it’s good.
