Last of the Canadiana for now. Ending with a local 1980s favorite signed to Nettwerk Records (Sarah McLachlan), The Grapes of Wrath. They're more folk rock than Americana, but I think close enough. Their early songs especially sounded a lot like early 1980s R.E.M.

The Grapes of Wrath - Backward Town

Invent pleasant memories
and then a pleasant town

Take that Kelowna!

The population of Kelowna has grown from around 13,000 in 1961 to around 140,000 today.

Los Lobos - Set Me Free (Rosa Lee)

1987 had a lot of great music, but I'd always listen to The Pogues 'If I Should Fall From Grace With God' and Los Lobos 'By the Light of the Moon.'

Los Lobos - One Time One Night

Like Blue Rodeo, Los Lobos has the benefit of two of their members as lead singers, one for ballads and the other for the more rock songs.
