I made a thread like this for the Dem primaries.  I started with 1972:

1972: Muskie
1976: Carter
1980: Kennedy
1984: Hart
1988: Gore
1992: Tsongas
1996: Clinton (uncontested)
2000: Gore

72: Muskie (better than McGovernment I suppose)
76: Carter (?)
80: ?
84: Hart (??)
88: ? (Dukakis???)
92: Clinton
96: Clinton
00: Bradley (Has more charisma than Gore)
04: Edwards

Honestly saying: I haven't enough knowledge for decision making except about elections since 92 )
Well----here were the candidates in the Dem primaries:

1972: Wallace, Muskie, McGovern
1976: Carter, Wallace and other people
1980: Incumbent Carter and Ted Kennedy
1984: Hart, Mondale, Jesse Jackson, others
1988: Gore, Gephardt, Jackson, Dukakis, others
1992: Tsongas, Clinton, Brown, Harkin
1996: Clinton Uncontested
2000: Gore, Bradley

When I say others, I can't remember the othe candidate that were in the race, mostly minor candidates.

You're welcome. I got lucky, by coincidence I happen to have an extreme amount of knowledge about the 1976 election.
Why?  My favorite election is the 1912 election Smiley

I ended up in a vacation resort in the West Indies with little to do, and stumbled across a book by Jules Witcover on the 1976 election. It sparkled my interest in US elections, in fact. But it was a really thick book... Wink
Okay.  I like the 1912 election because it is the only election I can find where 4 candidates polled over 10% in a state.  Wilson, Taft, TR, and Debs all did this in Idaho in 1912.

I like these elections as well. Smiley But there should be another one with several candidates over 10% somewhere...
Maybe...but I haven't found one yet.  There rarely are two third party candidates with an impact.

4 candidates olled above 15% in Nevada in 1912.

1912 is now officially my favourite election. I am letting my passion destroy this thread, but it's really cool! Debs actually ran 2nd in Florida! Smiley And since Chafin got 3.65% in 5th place there, I think that might be a record.
I got you hooked on 1912...I told you it was cool!

The cool thing is that Lincoln would have won even if the others had combined their votes!
Yep, the old forum Superman v. Lincoln what-if.

And for anyone who wants to know who ran in which party's primaries, check this site out:

The bumping of these threads and that link seems to be putting me back in February 2004.

1972: NOTA
1976: Maybe Jerry Brown or Jackson, No really good candidates
1980: I don't know, of the two Carter
1984: Either Hollings, Hart, or Glenn
1988: Gore
1992: Clinton
1996: Clinton
2000: Gore, I guess
2004: Clark

Clark would have ran as a Republican in 2004 is that was the open nomination.  There's nothing to prove that he's a Democrat outside of comments he made in October 2003.  I would have had alot of problems supporting him in the general had he come away with the nomination.
