Lmao, Chandra Arya first having his leadership candidacy ruled ineligible and then having his renomination revoked so Carney can run...

I suspect the Liberals had good reasons to get rid of Arya independently of whether Carney wanted to run in that seat. There is some talk that he was caught up in the foreign interference scandal and is an agent of the Modi government

...and as such, in retrospect, a consequence of the questionable vetting the 3rd place Libshad going into the '15 election.  But who just kept on going and going and going, anyway.

The whole Liberals being both ruthless bastards and capable of positive, affirming ads is something quite to behold. Maybe it all falls apart and it turns out they cannot paper over past issues with the campaign, but there's a sense of admiration to be had.

It sure beats Pollievre burying his head in the sand for weeks.

And Poilievre's former riding encompassed the riding Carney's running in, but in the 2015 redistribution split it into two and Poilievre chose the more conservative one.

It's simultaneously the Liberals' best and worst trait.

The ruthlessness of the Grits really is a sight to behold. I love the Parti libéral du Canada.

Meanwhile all Poilievre has in response are his silly childish slogans in his shrill nasal voice (e.g. carbon tax carney, just like Justin) - he just can’t read the room. Part of the problem is that the highly overrated Tory campaign manager Jenni Byrne only knows how To run one kind of campaign and that is to be viciously partisan and mean-spirited

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Unless you're Chandra Arya, in which case, you can't hope to fall off harder than him. It's literally impossible.

Poilievre is such a douche. He’s just totally incapable of putting out anything without insulting someone.

Even this rollout here, which most of us could at least agree is identifying a real issue in the country, doesn’t land. “More boots, less suits” can’t make white-collar people feel very valued, can it? Like, I know we need more builders, tradespeople, and the like, but I don’t need Pierre Poilievre insinuating that me and my friends are redundant elitist fat cats adding no value to society. But because he needs a catchy rhyming slogan he thinks it’s good to devalue a whole segment of voters? In the middle of an existential threat from the US that requires real national unity? I don’t know, man.

It’s a little thing, but it’s very characteristic of Poilievre being a divider.

"Boots, not suits" is pretty rich coming from somebody who's never worked a real job off of Parliament Hill a day in his life:

The man dated Jenni Byrne, who's now managing his campaign; they were never gonna be trying anything but digging in to further placate the far-right wing of the party at the exact time they need centrist swing voters to win an actual election.

Wow is she both terminally stupid and treasonous. Perhaps she gave Trump's people the impression that there was a non-zero number of Canadian fifth-columnists who would be open to his Anschluss.

Waaa?? PP and Jenni dated? I wonder how they're still working together now. Most of us real people have barely any contact with our exes.

I like how the French slogan means "boots, not ties", as if those wearing ties are inherently not productive workers. I wear them when I go to the office, and no one has ever called me unproductive.

Did PP use ChatGPT to generate these stupid three word chants?

He should be arrested as an unregistered foreign agent and deported. Seriously if he was just straight up getting paid by Modi I don't know what he would say differently. The anti-Sikh conspiracy theories were foul.

Poilievre giving this speech entirely in French, at least to start. He was also clearly told he needs to smile more.

Edit: He's now giving the speech again in English.

Carney avoids mentioning Poilievre by name in his speech, instead denouncing "negativity" and division. He's certainly not as engaging of a speaker as Trudeau, but this election probably isn't as much about personality as previous ones.

Forgive the foreign ignorance but why did the NDP allow Singh to remain leader?

Presumably because they’re broke and no one else wants to do it.

Nepean makes sense for Carney but it would have been great optics to have a Liberal leader in Alberta. Maybe not for QC maximum seat gains though.

Seems it was considered, but rejected because it would have required Carney to spend more time campaigning in his riding rather than nationaly.

Democrats here desperately need to learn a lesson on both points, but particularly the ruthlessness aspect.
