From starting a thread about a very relevant topic - 11 states sued to block it. Is it not topic worthy to discuss the merits of the case and whether or not it will stand?

I can almost guarantee the venn diagram of the people who think that people who took out student loans because they signed a contract and agreed to pay it back but call my work because they took out life insurance loans and ignored them for 20-30 years and we should waive it because they deserve it are a perfect circle.

I've come to the conclusion there shouldn't be any federal loans available for any type of education.  Period.  It's just getting people too young to think straight caught up in decades of basically indentured servitude.  The fact of the matter is many degree programs came into existence primarily as networking opportunities for the already wealthy.  To funnel poor and middle class people into these programs and then spit them out with significant debt and no obvious path to a career that pays above the median wage is cruel.

If a private lender with zero federal subsidies wants to cover med school, or a top law school, or certain types of engineering in undergrad based on a cold, hard economic analysis, that's fine.  Otherwise all it does is inflate tuition to kingdom come in a way that's decoupled from job prospects.

Um...no. The university education used to be about getting a well-rounded education and then your employer would actually train you upon entering the workforce.

This idea that college is just "trade school for the professional class" is actually a fairly new development.

This idea gets me so angry. It’s caused a college education to be severely watered down and inflated the value of a college degree. If you can’t handle an entry level gen ed class, then college probably isn’t for you.

This has nothing to do with Gen Ed, which is good.  You wouldn't give someone a $100K loan to go around the world touring museums.  That doesn't mean museums are bad.

I think the SCOTUS will probably rule that Biden exceeded his authority.

I don’t see this thread ending in a positive light given OP’s history. Not infracting anyone because it’s not a single person’s fault but let’s stop the bleeding before it starts.
