It looks like (should changes take effect for 2030 Census) Afghans will be classified as Asian for the first time. So far they’ve been classified as “white” or “Caucasian” in the US. Classifying them as Asian would make more sense, though. If these new census categories get blocked, Afghani Pashtuns and Pakistani Pashtuns will continue to be racially different from each other (officially, according to the US Government).
