How President McCain would have perform in Hawaii

(1/1)

UWS:
In 2004, Hawaii saw the best Republican performance in modern area as Kerry won that state by just 9 percentage points. That is notably because Bush performed so well in Honolulu as he was 3 percentage points away from winning it. Dubya won 17 % of the state’s registered Dems in addition of winning 48 % of the state’s Asian-American vote and 46 % of Hispanics. HI had the lowest jobless rate in the nation it was witnessing a construction boom and tourism was soaring resulting in 50000 jobs created in HI in the three years preceding the election which Republicans also attributed to the Bush tax cuts to say they’re working. The Republicans’ strategy also included connecting the memory of those who lived Pearl Harbor with the memory of 9/11 to emphasize in the significance of 9/11 where the United States lost more people than in Pearl Harbor and to emphasize on the importance of a strong national defense to keep the U.S. safe against terror. And 10000 based troops from Hawaii were fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.

But what if John McCain won the Republican nomination in 2000 and he defeated Al Gore in 2000 and became a wartime President after 9/11? How would he fare in HI? Would his maverick stances and his larger foreign policy experience help him make HI more competitive than in real life?

UWS:
My guess is that he performs better than George W. Bush did by being within 5 percentage points away from winning Hawaii or less. I think he would also perform better among Hawaii's Asian-American voters as he would remind people there that he fought communism during his military service in Vietnam and in 2004 an important portion of Asian-Americans, especially Vietnamese Americans, were a strong Republican constituency especially due to their anti-communism6
