Clear HP overall, though the mistakes he made were unfortunately quite in the mainstream of the party at the time.

For the purposes of this poll, I have to vote FF.

A seriously overlooked aspect of Stalin’s tenure has been in putting into place a plan more so similar to the proposals of the Wilson administration after WWI. Arguably, the lack of war among Central and Eastern European states relative to Yugoslavia shows that something was indeed working according to a bourgeoisie standpoint.

There's nothing mysterious about him.

He was a gangster who by luck came to power and used his gangster experience to remain in power, he also copied the Tsarist policies to an extreme.

Think Al Capone as President, or any villain from a Western (which is why he liked those films, the characters reminded him of his younger years).

His major mistake was thinking that Hitler was just another gangster like him.

Stalin was immensely more competent than that and could seriously read the room well. His organizational ability and success in navigating the political scene of the CPSU knows no bounds, as is lasting so long through his foreign policy.

A major fault of left wing movements is that they do kind of cream over any borderline ethnic person when they agree with them. Stalin was that minority and he knew he could rise through the ranks by saying what many conservative Russians in the party believed in. Stalin’s one mistake was realizing that he was still an ethnic person leading over a communist party, and that non-leftists seriously hate that and would seek to destroy such a thing ASAP.

For the purposes of the poll, it is necessary to bring an outside perspective and look at the other hand y’know. Look at the total peace in most of the Eastern European countries when such a thing was unthinkable in the 1920s.

Pure knee jerk rejection, not an accurate take in sight.

Okay fine if you want something here it is. Stalin took an event you deem to be the greatest event in human history (the Russian Revolution) and made all about a personality cult centered on himself. He killed men (and even their families) who stood with Lenin during the revolution to consolidate power, he teamed up with Hitler to craved up neutral countries and his own daughter has quoted him bemoaning the fact that he had to fight Hitler over ruling over Europe together. He beat his first wife, emotionally abused the second one into suicide, drove his first son to a failed suicide attempt to which he reacted “the idiot can’t even shoot straight”. Knocked up a 14 year old while he in his 30’s and put an open pedo as the head of his secret police. This is isn’t covering the mainstream stuff people would say he’s bad for (mass murder, purges, Holdmor, big brother authoritarian regime, etc.) So please say why we should engage in these lazy attempts on your behalf to praise him?

I look at him like I do a really compelling antagonist in a movie, book, or TV show. He doesn't necessarily need to be mysterious to be intriguing to me.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn once wrote in one of his books that the only person Stalin ever trusted was Adolf Hitler.

The comparison of Hitler and Stalin is one of whether it is more evil to butcher people out of ethnic hatreds and ideas of your own ethnicity's superiority, or if you butcher people for purely political reasons.  Somehow, I fail to see the distinction.  Hitler's murderous rampage was more intense than Stalins and seemed irrational, while Stalin's extended over a greater period of time and seemed more coldly rational.  Either way, millions of innocent people ended up dying horrible deaths.

Obviously many of you are brainwashed by the hack writings of Solzhenitsyn, Montefiore, Conquest, and Applebaum. If you read propagandists and fake news promoters you are going to get the facts wrong.
