Sounds like the Biden administration is planning on reclassifying marijuana from its schedule 1 status

Curious as to what effect this would have on the election. It could be a wedge issue that helps on the margins

I wish Biden would do a more grandiose 'legalize marijuana' pitch but given he's more of a traditionalist on the issue, this is about as good as we can expect. Harris doing events for marijuana reform is a good touch too. Idk what effect it will have on the election, but it certainly can't hurt, especially among younger voters. They should make a very big deal about it.

I wish they'd legalize weed nationwide because I know SC will be the last to do it if left up to the states.

If there were ever an issue for him to go all in on, it should be weed. It would definitely help make inroads with youth voters. It's wildly popular and actually presents a great contrast with Trump, a guy who hired an Attorney General who wanted the feds to raid dispensaries like they're cartel operations. He would be insanely foolish to not embrace legalizing weed at the federal level.

I completely agree! I'm just trying to temper my expectations on how much he'll personally go for it, even though I think it would be a great idea. I hope he does. I think it's been smart as well to make Harris the face of some of these initiatives too, especially in terms of reproductive rights and marijuana reform.  She has an easier path to connecting with young voters than Biden does atm

I've literally been saying for a decade that the Democrats are insanely stupid not to go for this, perhaps the most low hanging fruit in politics, and the week I decide to un-endorse Biden, they come out with this. Sigh.

Seriously? It seems like Biden has been kidnapped and replaced with a completely new person since the SOTU, bringing infrastructure to Wisconsin, standing with steel workers in Pennsyvlania, and now this. Meanwhile, the Deep State inserted a virus into Trump's brain which caused him to advocate entitlement reform. I didn't think the SOTU would have a permanent effect, but if this keeps up, it's going to be Obama-Rommey 2012 all over again.

The voters will just ask why he did not do it on his first term. Biden is just trying to pitch for votes.

The entitlement reform issue is likely neutralized by the fact that Biden is also on record advocating for it when he was Senator.

It would be a big move, especially if they time it right.

Knowing this country though it could backfire as people see it as a cynical, desperate ploy to get youth and minority votes. Which, admittedly, it kind of is. No matter the motivation it's the right thing to do.
