The delusion that Trump is so far ahead with minorities that he doesn't have to campaign is mind boggling. Doing outreach is not pandering, it's doing persuasion and trying to turnout potential voters. Republicans shut down the program because they know they don't have a chance at increasing their share of minority voters and are focusing on maintaining their share of the White vote to win. You don't outright end outreach programs with voters you thinking you are winning or have a chance at winning.

Yea the most common gripe you hear from minorities, especially black and Hispanic communities, is the DNC takes their votes for granted and don’t do enough outreach, just take their votes and run after the election.

Trump obviously believes that his appeal to minority voters is so strong that he doesn't need any special outreach program.

Good. The GOP doing the cringe pandering to minorities things don't get votes. You get minority votes by running a good campaign that appeals to a broad range of voters, not going "look here's some black conservatives! vote for us!"

🤦‍♂️

We have streets in this country’s heartland being named after African jihadis and sitting members of Congress swearing allegiance to blood feuds half a world away. I dare say it’s needed now more than it was back then.

Right, because if someone isn't quite literally having sex with the flag and making out with the Constitution every 5 minutes or so totally means they " aren't "American enough" or whatever else nonsense you people claim  Roll Eyes

It's always funny when you guys say this stuff about "stop emphasizing ethnicity and focus on being an American," when really all you want is for minorities to abandon their own traditions, customs, and cultures for the sake of some kind of fake and bland "unity."

If you think that heritage American culture is “fake and bland”, you’re kind of proving my point, aren’t you?

What they said was "fake and bland unity" which is exactly what conservatives advocate for. They push the idea they want everyone to hold hands but they don't really want that at all it's just phony symbolism to appear noble. Republicans only want unchecked power and control to implement their agenda.

Exactly. Black voters, like any white voter, appreciates authenticity. I don't get why this is so hard to grasp.

This is not how elections are won. Now more than ever, you can't rely on people to see your commercials and like your authenticity. You (or more accurately, your people) have to go where the voters are, engage with them directly, and effectively organize in their communities. Expecting voters of any color to suddenly fall in love with Trump's "authenticity" after hating it for the past 10 years is not going to work. I'm sure whatever outreach they canceled would've been terrible, but that doesn't mean that doing nothing is good politics either.

This is obviously a mistake on the GOP's part, but I think there's a decent argument that a lot of their gains with minority voters will happen by default as race generally becomes a less important aspect of one's identity. Race depolarization is just going to happen as race becomes less prevalent in society. This also explains why younger non-whites tend to be more R-friendly than their parents, but not necessarily more Conservative.
