And this is why the GOP will completely snatch the jaws of victory and into defeat.

Did I say that right ?

"Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory" would be the usual way to phrase it.

The only new thing I learned from reading this article was that The Messenger just left the media business with no warning a few weeks ago. They were commissioning their own polling, landing exclusive interviews, publishing multiple thoughtful articles a day (most famously regarding the Eric Adams scandal), and all this despite not even having finished their first year of operations. Then they just... vanished. They didn't even explain why.

Just when I was sure the GOP would win 25% of the black vote and 45% of Hispanics, they do this!

I’m surprised they had one to begin with.

This. Especially after their 2012 election autopsy that actually had some valid points in it. However, Trump winning in 2016 might have teached them it's not necessary as long as they can make more gains among whites.

There's Trump and there's competence, and never the twain shall meet.

This is why I'm starting to believe Trump will not be able to become a dictator. Hes incompetent, and his coalition gets weaker with every election as more of them are dying off, and being replaced by young people of color. And even if he wins this time, it'll be people of color that put him over the top.

No, don't you see? Trump alone is enough that they're already safe R constituencies.

This way they save money now to go to his legal fees.

Seems redundant to me. The power of Trump's momentum will ultimately prevail.

Still not worth chancing it this year.

Good. The GOP doing the cringe pandering to minorities things don't get votes. You get minority votes by running a good campaign that appeals to a broad range of voters, not going "look here's some black conservatives! vote for us!"

Exactly. Black voters, like any white voter, appreciates authenticity. I don't get why this is so hard to grasp.

As I said in another thread, the GOP is turning/has turned into a pyramid scheme

I haven't read The Daily Beast in a long time. Has it always been this bad? This is like reading something out of Wonkette or the Gateway Pundit. Just one line of leading invective after another, interspersed with more speculation than reporting. (I don't even disagree with much of it, but it's a major PITA to read through.)

This bit struck me:

Quote
That project not only had promise, it came at the right time. After ignoring their own “autopsy” of the GOP’s 2012 presidential loss, many Republicans began to court minority voters in the wake of Trump’s 2016 win. As paradoxical as that may seem, given Trump’s rhetoric and policies, those efforts appear to be bearing some fruit.

The 2012 autopsy has been regarded as a joke almost since its inception, and its status as a punchline was confirmed by the rise of Trump. It's a strong reason to regard any kind of top-down outreach directed by the RNC with skepticism.

The article includes few details on the RNC's minority outreach program, or whether its success had been demonstrated with any rigor. But in an organization known for ineffectively wasting vast sums of money, what would you expect?

Quote
They were viewed as a success and point of pride, sources with knowledge of the project told The Daily Beast. The Messenger described the project’s pitch as “a dream intersection of fun, civic life, candidate recruitment, and GOTV muscle,” reporting that in the midterms the centers hosted events like toy drives, religious services, holiday meals, cultural celebrations—and, for some reason, cryptocurrency workshops.

Now there's a line that deserves some follow-up. Was the RNC using their minority outreach as a crypto pump?

Why do people like saying stuff like this even though Trump got more voters in 2016 than Romney in 2012 and then even more voters in 2020 than he did in 2016? Surely all those old white people replaced* by young non-whites over the course of a decade should have prevented that?.

*Oh and the terminology used here seems eerily similar to what people on the far-right would consider as the Replacement Theory.

We have streets in this country’s heartland being named after African jihadis and sitting members of Congress swearing allegiance to blood feuds half a world away. I dare say it’s needed now more than it was back then.

Right, because if someone isn't quite literally having sex with the flag and making out with the Constitution every 5 minutes or so totally means they " aren't "American enough" or whatever else nonsense you people claim  Roll Eyes

It's always funny when you guys say this stuff about "stop emphasizing ethnicity and focus on being an American," when really all you want is for minorities to abandon their own traditions, customs, and cultures for the sake of some kind of fake and bland "unity."

The delusion that Trump is so far ahead with minorities that he doesn't have to campaign is mind boggling. Doing outreach is not pandering, it's doing persuasion and trying to turnout potential voters. Republicans shut down the program because they know they don't have a chance at increasing their share of minority voters and are focusing on maintaining their share of the White vote to win. You don't outright end outreach programs with voters you thinking you are winning or have a chance at winning.
