You Americans picked Biden and Trump AGAIN.

And there would be so many better candidates than those two.

😴😭

Anyway:

You and we all now have to support Biden as much as we can to ensure Trump does not get elected again.

November will be a vote for freedom and democracy and the rule of law vs. the FSB/KGB (Trump is Putin's trojan horse and his handpicked candidate).

There's not a better candidate than Biden actually. Trump though, yeah definitely.

I'm incredibly disappointed and disheartened, but the problem isn't that we didn't vote for better candidates. The problem is that better candidates, specifically better Democrats, didn't run. They were too craven and cowed by the party establishment, who wants an utterly inept Kamala Harris presidency to run as an incumbent in 2028.

For 50% of that you're right, and we should be ashamed.

There should be no equivalency with Biden though.

This is our system and we have to make the best of it.

Biden is the most normal, mainstream candidate possible and that's why he is the nominee. No one was forced to not run they chose not to run against an incumbent with a record of actually getting things done. You don't hamper your future chances by running against such an incumbent. The real life electorate doesn't look anything like Atlas and some people don't get that.

Our two party system is badly broken and deeply flawed. Those real and very obvious failings are a large part of why Trump gets support from the part of the population too stupid to see that he's the political equivalent of the creepy guy with the van offering to help little kids escape from their unpleasant home life.

Given the the circumstances, Biden is actually a pretty damned effective President; I'm concerned about his future health, not his current age.

Anyway:

You and we all now have to support Biden as much as we can to ensure Trump does not get elected again.

I'll quibble that while Trump is a particularly despicable muppet who is worked by many inimical hands for their own ends, he has his own petty and vile goals, too. But yes, Biden 100%, now.

I cannot support that. Goofy Kamala Harris would be a better candidate than Joe Biden. Creepy Gavin Newsome would be a better candidate than Joe Biden. Heck, Hakeem Jefferies would probably run ahead of Joe Biden.

Fair or not, "Biden is senile" is a truism to the majority of American voters. Is there a worse albatross to hang around a presidential candidate's neck?

Because the GOP is a cult personality who was facing a bunch of weak candidates. Biden meanwhile has been an excellent prez, it's natural he'll be renominated.

Is this what we're calling an incumbent president running for re-election now?

What I mean is that he would make the best President not that he is the most likely to win, although he might be that too.

I will take my chance to vote in the Democratic primary. Biden secured the nomination, but many/most Americans did not make their voices heard in early contests (to be clear, in large part due to barriers to entry including confusing guidelines - we should just have a national primary held on one day).

I wish we'd had a legitimate opposition candidate to vote for, but it seems we'll need to wait until at least 2028 for a fresh look at the Democratic Party. Hopefully in that primary, voters have a legitimate choice to make (and we don't have a situation where candidates coalesce around the most "establishment" option - we deserve a real election of ideas).

As others have alluded to I don't think there's a better Dem than Biden. He's the last sane adult in the room. There are better Republicans than Trump but that says more about Trump than it does about Republicans. There are hobos I'd rather be president than Trump.

This says more about what dire shape the American political class is in than anything else.

My apologies, I misread you. I would still dispute that, but that's a separate matter.

The establishment forced Biden on the base. The base forced Trump on the establishment.

What? When? Biden was nominated by Democratic primary voters in 2020, then elected President, and is running for re-election without serious primary opposition. He is the Democratic Party leader/“establishment”, because the base (voters in the primaries) put him in that position—twice.

Same applies to Trump, only he’s being nominated by his party for the third time in a row.

Then why didn't they run?

Republicans were presented with a dozen alternatives to Trump and they rejected every single one.

No one was interested in running against Biden except a gadfly congressman from Minnesota, a New Age spiritual guru, and someone named Uncommitted.

Americans want a Biden and Trump, simple as that. The polls saying otherwise are just Americans being dumb.

Polls are probably oversampling people who won't vote at all.

Fools. The establishment will force Kamala Harris down our throats in 2028 and any strong contenders will once again be sidelined. The latter are also fools but we already know that.
