Unfortunately, I have watched a considerable number of Trump rallies, and I can tell you that they are absolutely not unscripted.  He says pretty much the exact same things every time.  He may not be using a teleprompter (although he very often does, moreso nowadays than before), but they are very rehearsed and rote.  Any time Trump goes off-script it usually makes news because he'll say something totally wacky.

Back in 2016 the rehearsed rally speech was at least energetic and interesting.  At the Trump events I watch these days, Trump often forgets how his monologue is supposed to go.  So he'll start talking about the trade deficit with China or whatever, and he'll forget what his actual position on it is, so he'll just start lazily rambling while sounding like he's about to fall asleep... "it's a horrible, horrible thing... and Joe Biden, you know, Joe Biden, he can't get it done.  I'll get it done.  You know that.  I'm gonna be tough on China.  Joe Biden, he can't do it."  and so on.  He literally can't remember what he's supposed to say, so he just starts fishing around for some other talking point he can shift to.

I'm serious, go watch a Trump rally, this is what he does now, and then if you compare it to 2016/2020 he didn't do this before.  Other than the obvious fact that he sounds monotone and half-asleep now, this is the biggest shift I've noticed in Trump.
