Record low positive reaction to SOTU. I wonder how this will affect the race.

I'd imagine this is in practice just a % of those watching who already view him favorably v unfavorably. Polarization is like that.

You're really trying to spin this as bad for Biden? Last I checked Trump didn't get 70% of the vote in any national election, and obviously Biden won't either.

It was a campaign speech, and very good at that. It also serves as a liberal laundry list (I love alliteration, as if you didn't know). I thought it brilliant for co-opting Ronald Reagan for standing up to dictators (well, at least the ones that he despised).  He did what he could to reach supporters of Nikki Haley, who has disparaged Trump for suspect loyalty to the United States, the Constitution, and the rule of law.

The viewers tend to be very partisan, so 70+%  among viewers is typical. Biden got a record low number.

8% lower than last year and lower than all of Trump’s term among viewers is bad.

Already said this in the other thread, but according to the CNN flash poll, this was one of the more less partisan viewing audiences recently. The D/R makeup was 36/30. That's pretty low for a SOTU type event like this. I'd have to go back and look at the Trump years, but I imagine they much more R than D which is why you saw those #s. Bidens is much more balanced this year, even moreso than last year when it was 41/31 D/R.

EDIT:

2024: D+6, 36-30
2023: D+10, 41-31
2022: D+10, 41-31
2021: D+22, 45-23

Why do people treat polls like this as though they matter? Democrats are reflexively against anything a Republican does and Republicans are reflexively against anything a Democrat does. What matters to them is not good policy or good speeches, it's getting and holding power, so everything including your response to a poll becomes subservient to getting and holding power.

Of course the OP has largely been absent of the orginal SOTU megathread, but now tries to frame a nearly 30 pt. margin of approval to spin it into negative for Biden.

Imagine trying to spin Biden's SOTU negatively when the campaign set three consecutive fundraising records, headlines are favorable, and the President delivered a commanding address.

https://www.mediaite.com/news/stunning-cnn-poll-shows-massive-pro-biden-swing-from-before-to-after-state-of-the-union/

The flash poll had 45% of people say the country was in the right direction to 62% after the speech

In an election year with a highly partisan electorate I feel like this is pretty normal. Maybe even really good.

You can’t compare this poll with every SOTU but only those in a year where the incumbent is running for reelection.

Last night's speech was a campaign speech, not a traditional SOTU. So audiences reactions are going to be more partisan.

It was easily the best speech of Biden's presidency so far. Biden achieved his goals. He made himself look good and Republicans look bad, to energize Democrats to vote in November. The speech was given by a Presidential nominee running for re-election, not a neutral statesman like previous years.

Let's ignore the fact the sample in this poll was much less partisan than it has been. The fact the GOP keeps harping on how energetic Biden was tells me they're worried.

I caught a few minutes. He slurred quite a lot, but not the train wreck some predicted. Also, nothing election-winning, threw some red meat about abortions out there. I tuned out when he said our economy was the envy of the world. That's enough for tonight.

Kamala Harris looked ridiculous repeatedly giving standing ovations when seated behind Biden. It's quite distracting, she should just stay seated.

That's literally what every VP does every time there's a SOTU. Are you new?

Also, our economy is the envy of the world:

U.S. ECONOMIC RECOVERY FASTEST AMONG COMPARABLE ADVANCED ECONOMIES

But I know you're trying your best to downplay it and make it seem horrible, so keep trying gurl!
