Presumably you only posted this to mock (again) a certain poster that you have a strong dislike for?

How old are you? Eight?

If Dodd were to choose to run, he'd stand an excellent chance of winning the nomination.

We are talking about the 2010 Connecticut Senate race, correct?

I don't really dislike him. But if you're going to make such stupid predictions, you're going to get it.

The thing I don't get about Mitty's prediction is that he *could* simply argue that Dodd has a fighting chance at the nomination, and is being unfairly ignored and underestimated.  I might not agree with that, but it's not an absurd proposition.  Instead, he goes much farther than that and argues that, not only does Dodd have a fighting chance, but he's the *favorite*.  That he *will* be the nominee.  That's an...um...interesting take on things.

I think it's the contrast between his eyebrows and his hair color that's holding him back.  That look worked much better for Marilyn Monroe than for Chris Dodd.  It's like someone cut off Charleton Heston's scalp and glued it onto Milhouse van Houten's head.  Hard to take him seriously that way.

yes absolutely i believe that dodd will be the nominee.

im also a realist.  i do understand it is an uphill fight.

one thing that gives me hope is the fact that most every liberal democrat ive talked to 'likes' dodd....as a senator.  they probably would like him as a president, they just are reluctant to support him because of his long odds.

if he starts gathering steam, id expect a lot of the liberals to migrate over to dodd's side once they think he has a shot to win.

look, dodd has been fighting for the liberal issues for three decades now.  he has been a leader on health care.  and so far as i can tell, he is the only candidate with a serious, realistic and bold energy plan.  candidates of both party have a short sighted energy 'plan'.  they are just concerned with getting the prices down at the pump, rather than dealing with the serious, long term issues.

and angus, my girlfriend has also commented on dodd's eye brows.  i never noticed until she said something about it.

Mitty-

I'm still confused.  You say that "it is an uphill fight", and yet you also say "i believe that dodd will be the nominee", without any qualifiers on that.  No "I think he has a good chance".  Just "dodd *will* be the nominee".  If it's an uphill fight, isn't there a good chance he won't make it?

If I can come at this a different way, if you were to assign a probability to the chances of Dodd winning the nomination, what would it be?  40%?  60%?  99%?

OK.  I'm still not sure I understand.  If you think a "low probability" event is likely to happen, then what you're really saying is that it's not a low probability event after all.  It's just that the CW says it's low probability, but the CW is wrong.  In other words, *by definition*, an event that you think is likely to happen is one for which you believe the probability of it happening is high.

But anyway, I think we're just getting hung up on semantics here.

Sorry Mitty, but Dodd lacks the Audacity of Hope. He simply cannot become the nominee.

Oh, Walter...

You know I like you so don't take this the wrong way. The last time someone said that, Santorum lost by 17 points.  Tongue  Saying "defy the odds" is forever cursed.

At this point in time, it would be a miracle for Dodd to lose by 17 points. Tongue

He won't be the nomination. He seems like a good candidate who is knowledgeable, but he's going to get overshadowed by more personable/attention "grabbing" candidates.

Back in the 1960s, Dodd would most likely have been the nominee for the Democrats. Dodd is the chairman of a powerful Senate commitee, he is experienced, he is a solid Great Society liberal, and comes from an established political family. If the Democrats in the 2008 field were running in 1968, Dodd (the Humphrey like candidate would easily defeat the RFK like candidate, Obama. However, this is not 1968.

Hey, you can like and support him, but that hardly makes him the favorite.

I think that he would make a good candidate to get the Unity 08 ticket nomination. The corporate media are bullies and want to protect the big business buddies instead of giving us voters candidates who care about Americans.

And Santorum at least had polls to suggest he was competitive.

What on Earth does being a fan have to do with being a realist?
