Oh, 59 in total. Not #59. Yes, I've seen all the Star Wars movies and the Matrix, and consider myself to be a movie buff, in the way that I can recite directors, actors, plot summaries, etc. from most movies in existence. I've had an account on IMDb since apparently Saturday, March 2nd, 2002, although I don't really post there anymore.

Using IMDb's nifty power search function, I can sort Top 250 movies I've seen by personal rating:

Not only is Billy Madison not on the list, but with a rating of 6.1, it's quite far from making it.

So in a nutshell...IMDB users are stupid.
Better than mainstream critics, let alone average crowds. That not every movie you love is liked by large numbers is not the numbers' fault. (But they are indeed still far to mainstream. I mean, The Two Towers in the Top 50? Huh Wtf?) Movies I'm missing include Kids, Fallen Angels, The Edukators, Atame (especially since Hable con Ella is listed), The Professional, Buffalo 66, or anything by Jim Jarmusch... I was delighted and surprised to find La Haine listed, though.

Billy Madison is well loved though. Typically considered the best Adam Sandler movie by my generation (The younger crowds might've skewed something else like Happy Gilmore above it on IMDB)
Just checked what kind of movie we're talking about ... as far as I can see, there is no live action comedy movie made after the death of Marylin Monroe on this list. Which proves my point. Tongue

haha, as an Arnold fan, I really want to see that. I think this summer I'll go on a bittorent binge and watch as many of the bottom 100 movies as I can. I made the mistake of actually buying the Beast of Yucca Flats, which, at the time, was #1 on the bottom 100 list. That movie is only 54 minutes long, but seriously felt like it was 3 hours. Truly an agonizing experience.

Someone obviously hasn't seen the Hobgoblins cover

Sultry.

But, seriously, it relates to a TV show that you probably didn't have in Germany.  Which is a shame.

1. 9.1 The Godfather (1972) [People seem to rave over it, but I thought it was fairly average.]
2. 9.1 The Shawshank Redemption (1994) [Very good]
3. 8.9 The Godfather: Part II (1974) [I really don't get the hype over this one, this series got worse as it went on.]
5. 8.8 Pulp Fiction (1994) [Excellent, one of my favourites. 10/10]
8. 8.8 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) [I recall that I saw the original Star Wars films on the same day and so have great trouble differentiating them. I wasn't particularly enamoured with them either.]
9. 8.8 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) [I agree that it's the best of the three.]
11. 8.8 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) [Given it's fame, I expected better - the same can be said for a great deal of this list I suppose.]
12. 8.7 Star Wars (1977) [See above]
14. 8.7 12 Angry Men (1957) [Given that I presume the idea has been ripped off unmercifully since, it seemed fairly cliché when I saw it. Good nonetheless]
15. 8.7 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) 237,199
16. 8.7 Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
18. 8.6 Goodfellas (1990) [Meh...]
19. 8.6 The Usual Suspects (1995) [Like it a lot]
21. 8.6 Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) [Excellent]
22. 8.6 Psycho (1960)
25. 8.6 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
26. 8.6 Memento (2000) [Surprised it's this high]
27. 8.6 The Silence of the Lambs (1991) [Very good, I'd read the book first though, I find that detracts quite a bit from the enjoyment]
29. 8.5 Fight Club (1999) [Very good]
33. 8.5 The Matrix (1999)
35. 8.5 American Beauty (1999) [I like Spacey generally, this is one of his best]
36. 8.5 Taxi Driver (1976)
38. 8.5 Apocalypse Now (1979) [Fell asleep the first time I watched it, the second time made me appreciate the sleep I gained from the first]
39. 8.5 Se7en (1995) [Cool]
41. 8.4 Laberinto del fauno, El (2006)
42. 8.4 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

51. 8.4 Alien (1979)
52. 8.4 The Pianist (2002)

54. 8.4 Untergang, Der (2004)
57. 8.4 L.A. Confidential (1997) [Very good]
58. 8.3 Boot, Das (1981) [Very long]
59. 8.3 The Shining (1980) [Certain elements of the plotline here annoy me]
60. 8.3 Requiem for a Dream (2000) [Rubbish]
61. 8.3 The Maltese Falcon (1941)
63. 8.3 Reservoir Dogs (1992)

82. 8.3 Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

There's quite a few. Knocked Up (though that's a fluke as I pointed out), Hot Fuzz (despite being another fluke type), both Monty Python movies, Groundhog Day, Shaun of the Dead, Ed Wood, A Christmas Story, and if you stretch the definition of "comedy" a bit you can include Fargo, Little Miss Sunshine and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Among the bottom 100, I've seen:

10. Manos: The Hands of Fate
66. Hobgoblins

Bonus points to anyone who can guess why.

One movie I'd say definitely belongs on the list but at least is fairly close to making it is Training Day.

150. 8.0 Amores perros (2000) 30,119

What did you think of that movie?  I thought it was kinda stupid that none of the three stories really come together at the end.  Foreign films piss me off with their pseudo-endings.  I've probably just been desensitized by Hollywood though.

Is it just me, or have a lot of people here not seen Raiders of the Lost Ark? Seriously, you guys need to stop posting and watch that masterpiece immediately.

You gotta be fuckin' kidding Smiley

I really need to check out more John Carpenter though. I've only seen The Thing and They Live. I haven't even seen Halloween in it's entirety. Escape from New York (the whole plot for that movie just sounds cool) and Assault on Precinct 13 are on my "to see" list.

Der Untergang (how this ever made the list is beyond me)
Das Boot (good)
The Shining (it's Johnny Tongue)
Metropolis (perhaps the best film ever made)
Aliens
2001: A Space Odyssey (good, it must have been popular with the flower power crowd then Tongue)
Terminator 2: Judgement Day (loved it as a kid)

Das Kabinet Des Dr. Caligari (awesome)
Lola Rennt
Toy Story 2 (saw it on a plane)
Gone With The Wind (classic)
Toy Story (saw it five or six times as a kid)
Spartacus
Hero
The Terminator (awesome)
300 (fun, you don't watch this expecting historical accuracy)
Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl (awesome!)
Lion King
Walk The Line

There are a couple on that list I still want to see.
