Running on banning football would be a good way to never win an election

Might be the policy of some fringe-right party tied to some Protestant denomination that thinks the sport is "sinful", but they are the only group that might even try.

full stop.  period.  for everyone, even adults?  No funking chance.

For children? well that's a much easier argument to make for both legal and moral reasons.  I'm still against banning it, but holy cow, it's crazy how much we encourage it.  Especially in certain corners of the country...still, the benefits (working together, general male bonding, exercise, overcoming adversity, realizing that sometimes you just can't overcome adversity) out weigh the negatives (the head injuries, reinforcing herd and mob mentality, the non-head injuries).

I find the CTE-inducing sportsball very tiresome. It would be better in general if society didn't pretend like this was a worthwhile use of everyone's attention and banning it would be a very effective way of accomplishing this, so I approve.

It would be as effective as a ban on guns. I get that you come from a very radical part of America but millions of Americans dream of playing football, and a ban wouldn’t stop people from wanting to watch or play it. The idea that if it was magically banned, people would move on from football is laughable.

Honestly, kids before middle school should play flag football. That is my take on this.

Realistically? At least as far as kids go, there really should be rules against letting high schools have football, at least in its current form. It's the unfortunate "no fun allowed" 80s high school principal villain position, but the risks we know about just aren't justifiable at least as kids are concerned.

But as far as adults are concerned, it's not the state's place

What's "the government"? Are you referring to the federal government? The answer is no, because that would not be within the federal government's enumerated powers.

The government should ban all forms of "football" except real, international football.

association football has plenty of concussions too, not as many as tackle football, but way more than baseball or basketball.  link

Banning high school tackle football is a virtual delayed ban of college and NFL tackle football because there will be no pipeline of future players.  (The role of college and NFL coaches has never been to teach the very basic fundamentals)

Gridiron football, absent major changes to how it's played, is probably going to become more niche in America over the years anyway, for the same reason boxing did--parents, mothers especially but not solely, stopped wanting their kids to grow up doing it. This used to be one of the American sports along with baseball, and now most people would probably be hard-pressed to name more than one or two currently active boxers.

Boxing lost a lot of ground in popularity to MMA fighting which is even more dangerous.

Traditional boxing slid into irrelevance but MMA/UFC are huge.

Might be the policy of some fringe-right party tied to some Protestant denomination that thinks the sport is "sinful", but they are the only group that might even try.

If you think any threat to the future of tackle football in the next couple of decades is going to come from the political right, you are even sillier and more deranged than I thought.

boxing is much more unhealthy to do than MMA, because of the head injuries.  There are more total injuries in MMA, but they tend to be sprains and small cuts.  In boxing they are concussions.

I wasn't talking about some mainstream right wing sect, but someone like the snake-handlers if they ran a fringe party.
I mean, it wasn't liberals complaining about Taylor Swift at the superbowl.

I was not aware that rugby players are eight times more likelier than (U.S.) football players to get concussions.
