Absolutely not. Being told about these things and seeing them are two different stories.

This could be a headache in the short-term for him, but as long as he doesn't make these sort of mistakes in public, he should weather it.

Lol, this thread is peak Atlas. Classical overreaction.

We have to see where it goes, but it's hard to claim any candidate is DOA 9 months before the election because of a single bad story. Trump misshandled the biggest health crisis in a century over the entire election year and came close to winning regardless.

"Well meaning old man" is probably Biden's biggest selling point against Trump.

It's amazing that some people think some inappropriate GOP talking points by a Republican lawyer are  going to sink Biden but 91 indictments somehow helps Trump.

Should be his campaign slogan.

“old man” is why he’s losing by 3-5 instead of winning by 4-6. Trump is not a juggernaut.

Obviously not. It doesn't help, but that does not mean he's dead on arrival by any means.

People on this site massively overuse the term "DOA". Few politicians really are, outside of Blanche Lincoln in 2010 or, say, Menendez this year.

He’s only down 1-2 according to most averages not 3-5

So Trump isn't an "old man"?

I think Netanyahu rejecting the ceasefire that Biden tried to broker yesterday and saying "victory was only a few months away" (meaning that there is no end in sight) hurt Biden a lot more.

I am tuned out, since I don’t like Biden or Trump really. This election is boring. It’ll be fascinating interpreting the results after the fact though since it’s unique in history.

Both guys are old, but that’s not why I’m voting for them. That said, you don’t have to convince me, but convince voters. The electorate has clearly decided Biden’s age matters, Trump’s doesn’t.

A few thoughts

1: It's obviously good that the Special Counsel found nothing worth charging here.

2: Good f***ing lord do I wish Biden had just decided not to run for re-election and we could have someone like Whitmer or Warnock as the nominee instead.

3: Polarization is so strong that none of this is going to matter unless the tipping-point state is decided by 1% or less.

4: The tipping point state probably will be decided by 1% or less, because that's just how this country is.

5: I was already dreading this entire campaign season regardless of any of the above points.

6: We're definitely in our Late Soviet era as a country.

--

Just going to add on to this: I do think the descriptions here are probably being at least somewhat exaggerated by a Special Counsel who really wanted to find something chargeable and didn't, so he decided to just do character assassination instead. But Biden also very clearly is not the ideal candidate for this election and his age and people's impression of it is an enormous part of that.

Lmao no. If voters decide to take Trump over Biden because of issues related to latters age, it will be because of how they perceived him on the campaign trail or in public, not because of some special counsel writing that nine months before the election takes place. Get real.

This, though I maintain that he was very likely to lose anyway.

Already pretty much was, this just confirming everyone outside of a niche terminally online bubble's perceptions of him was correct has simply completely put his campaign on ice.

The man needs to step aside for the sake of the country. Otherwise he will go down as one of the most hated figures in US history since Benedict Arnold. He needs to decide right now whether his ego and delusions are more or less important than his legacy and the health of the nation he claims to love.

Peak atlas is acting like his age and mental fitness isn't a issue amongst a solid majority of the electorate.

As shown by poll, after poll, after poll..

My man:

He didn't remember when Beau died.

He didn't remember when he was Vice President.

He didn't remember who was on his side or against him when it came to Afghanistan.

This is late stage Reagan stuff. Period. Bury your head in the sand all you want, it won't make it go away.

Not remembering the exact year something happened is not remotely equivalent to not remembering that something happened in the first place. Some people just aren't good at years.

I honestly think this partisan hit job is going to backfire. Comey 2.0 is just going to piss off anyone who is still angry about July 2016 and cause the base to rally around Biden. Those who are eating this up were never going to vote Biden to begin with.

Probably the only reason he's not DOA is that Republicans are just not willing to concede that Biden is a "well meaning old man".

They're so invested in a crazed, futile, and unending effort to dig up some evidence of corruption that they will forever refuse to let go of this ineffective line of attack and actually capitalize on one that a majority of the American public agree with.
