The decision not to charge him helps slightly, but the language of the report is absolutely horrible for him. It almost reads like a Trump campaign leaflet.

Robert Hur basically comes out and says Biden broke the law, obstructed justice and willfully retained classified materials (same exact accusation as Trump), but that no charges will be filed.

Funny, Biden has had these boxes since 2017, a full 5 years longer than Trump retained his, yet Biden gets a free pass?

What struck me the most was this line:

Quote
According to the report, investigators found Joe Biden’s “memory was significantly limited” in interviews they conducted with him in 2023 as well as interviews with his ghostwriter.

Because of that, special counsel Robert Hur wrote in the report, investigators concluded that it “would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him – by then a former president well into his eighties – of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”

Hur literally comes out and says the President of the United States is mentally compromised.

At least it’s all out in the open for the public to see

It is good that President Biden was not charged. If he was charged it would be worse.

I mean the special counsel effectively claiming he's mentally incompetent is more impactful.

Reinforces the electorates concerns surrounding his age.

In this situation Biden won the battle but lost the war.

Conservative Republican special counsel fails to find any criminal wrongdoing, resorts to using negative GOP talking points about the President.

No effect. If he was charged it would be bad.

The discussion around the report itself in the short-term might not be great for Biden, but I think this will be moved on from pretty quickly once the next right wing shiny object comes to their attention.

And I don't think a report suggesting senility is as bad as if Biden were to do those things in public. It also doesn't seem too relevant to the case and just feels like an excuse for cheap shots to try and do something to damage him.

No effect, since people already view Biden as old and incapable.

I think Biden needs a big foreign policy victory of some sort to turn things around (since this is the type of thing that relieves concerns about his age).

This report is bad but Biden should stay in until he at least gets the majority of delegates. That way Dems can determine their ticket and actually get something solid that both appeals to independents and isn't interested in lefty sectarian politics like Kamala.

Hur only said there was insufficient evidence to convict beyond a reasonable doubt and that was was therefore unable to recommend criminal charges. Is there any hope that a civil case, requiring a conviction on the balance of probabilities, could be pursued?

Is there anyone on this forum who wouldn't instantly know that Biden was Vice President in 2013? The excuse that could be come up with is that career politicians have more to deal with than mere dates etc, but dates in this case are seemingly quite important.

No effect or slightly helps Biden. That he's not charged is obviously good for him. Docugate itsself is hardly a gamechanger.
