A very memorable ticket, highly controversial over a century later.

The last Dem ticket I would enthusiastically vote for.  I would be open to voting for Wilson in 1912 and 1916 but it would not be enthusiastically.

The party just didn't have a way to win that election.
Roosevelt was appealing to non southern progressives and winning the Cleveland way wasn't plausible.
They wnded up runnning a 'back to basics, anti Roosevelt' campaing. The very popular Teddy ended up turning Missouri republican.

Parker attacked Roosevelt for ineffectively breaking up the trusts.
I was talking about his personal appearance.

You're either not that much of a libertarian or (more likely) fundamentally misunderstand the politics of this election.

I have no clue what Parker's or Davis's policies were, so I don't have any opinion one way or the other on them.

That could very well be true.  All I know is that during this era I would be a Bourbon Democrat which aligns well with Parker.

Henry G. Davis was almost 81 when nominated for VP, the oldest person to ever be on a major party ticket since the 2024 DNC hasn't happened yet.

He was born only 2 years after the Democratic party's VP nominee from 1856.
