No real surprise there.

And I doubt they'll change their minds about looking like hypocrites if Trump gets convicted.

And practically haven't Republicans been the one, who historically cut Police funding, and Pension benefits ?

Cop union endorses candidate who promised to turn a blind eye whenever they break the law.
Sounds like a "dog bites man" story.

Thugs sticking up for a thug. What a shocking revelation.

yeah, making a case against the police keeping neighborhoods safe and protecting suburbanites from thugs and the wrong types from wandering in is really gonna help Biden? sure..

The police unions are all about self-interest and completely separate from actual police work. That aside a police union endorsing a candidate with 91 charges says everything you need to know about them. The police unions are often full of criminals anyway.

I was making a moral argument, not a political one.

Police unions backing Trump isn't hypocrisy. Broadly speaking, it's perfectly in accordance with their view of the law: there are some people (like other cops, and Donald Trump) who get, or at least should get, special treatment, and the larger body public, who get the book thrown at them (or worse).

An extensive investigation completed by the non profit Center for Public Integrity revealed that the IUPA has mostly become a sham fund raiser organization that provides little to no benefit to law enforcement officers. For example, in 2018, the IUPA only gave 2.7% of its raised funds to law enforcement families. The majority of its operating budget funds an extravagant salary for the IUPA Director and various telemarking companies.

This was probably the most likely union endorsement Trump was going to get. Nothing really surprising here.

Imagine endorsing a guy for office that embraced violence against law enforcement during an insurrection and wants to defund the police. They're totally detached from reality.

Why exactly do they have "International" in their name?

They are a North American union. They also endorsed Trump in 2019 so if anything this is late. It's going to be depressing when/if the Fraternal Order of Police endorses him though.

It's a police union shared between the US and Canada. Though, in my opinion, I don't really consider Canada to be "international". More like "binational" or "cross-border".

Many other unions and organizations shared between the US and Canada have "international" in their names.

Ah, so it's a bit like the "World Series" then.
