Donald Trump is currently under indictment in 4 criminal cases. They are in the Georgia, New York, Florida and DC. The latter two are federal cases and the most serious. In Florida, Trump has an extremly friendly judge that will proabbyl delay the trial until after the election. In Georgia, the trial is set for August. But between the sheer size of the trial and Fanni Willis many personal problems, its unlikely for it to happen before the election. In DC, Trump has lost his appeal. He will now go to the Supreme Court. Unknown when the trial will happen. Could be April or August. Could be postponed until after the election, who knows.

Please don't turn this into a discussion about the possibility of a trial before the election. I made a separate thread for this.

Here is my point. The most likely trial to go froward is New York. And most likely to occur first. And most likely to help Trump.

Trump clearly broke the law. No doubt. But this reminds me of Bill Clinton's impeachment in 1998. Clinton broke the law, but public opinion never turned on him. Because ultimately, the American public doesn't care if the president sleeps with an intern or lies about it under oath.

Trump paid hush money to a porn star. This was suspected since 2016. He lied about it on his taxes. He did something morally wrong and legally wrong.

And the American public just doesn't care. Forget the polls. I know many people who hate Trump. Met hundreds of ant-Trumpers. And not once did I ever hear someone complain about Stormy Daniels.

Here is my point. This isn't going to change anyone's opinions of Donald Trump. You either support him or don't. Democrats need the American people to vote against Donald Trump because he is a danger to our republic. But if he is seen being prosecuting for something "silly", there is a small but critical percentage of voters who might not see Trump as dangerous because he is being treated "unfairly'' by the justice system.

Perhaps I am not the best person to explain it. But this reminds me of 2016. Lots of people didn't like Trump and did not want him to win. But they didn't fail obligated to get out and vote because they viewed the system as rigged. They didn't want Trump to win, but they didn't like the "establishment" telling them what to do.

Question is, will the headline be "Trump guilty" or "Trump hits back following 'rigged' trial"?

The day after Trump is convicted, you can bet "GUILTY" will be the big, bold headline in at least one major newspaper.

The NYC case was Always bs as if Presidents get charged for stuff like that then literally every president since 1945 onwards would be charged with a crime once the opposite party takes over since Presidents pretty much do operate in Grey areas .

the NY case is pure trash. Alvin Bragg is very obviously a partisan hack wanting to make a name for himself, to the point where he took a case that was outside the statue of limitations and stretched the law to make it a low-level felony, when at best these were misdemeanors, but I'd argue no proof exists a law was even broken.

Is this actually an unpopular opinion?
I think almost everyone acknowledges that the NY case in shockingly weak compared to all of the other Trump indictments, and probably the only one that Trump stands a good chance of being acquitted on. (Though all the cases stand a plausible chance of a mistrial.)

I think even a majority of knowledgeable Democrats would prefer that this case never have been brought, and especially would prefer it not be the first to go to trial.

The love Americans have for President TRUMP won’t be broken by a few headlines from the fake news media.

The New York trial is the least consequential as far as a Trump conviction would go, but I don't think it would necessarily help him.

I don't think a conviction in this trial would help Trump.  But unlike the other trials, I just think he's unlikely to be convicted, at least not of any felony count. FWIW, I wouldn't vote to convict Trump in the NY trial, at least based on what I know now.  And if you're not going to get my vote, I can't imagine you're going to get a unanimous jury to agree on a conviction.

The effect of a conviction in this case, should it occur before the election, will probably be negligible. Pretty much everyone has an opinion of Trump, and almost all of these are either strongly positive or strongly negative. I don't see how the New York case would change anyone's mind here.

Agree. The only thing Trump should be convicted on is election interference and Jan. 6. Everything else looks like partisan hackery and fascist political persecution and sets an extremely dangerous precedent. As bad as Trump is, we have to wisely pick our battles with him and appease him in other areas so as not to make him even more powerful. Sadly, Democrats with blind "orange man bad" disease won't realize this.
