Quote
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) acknowledged on Sunday that the current state of politics in the United States has made it "very hard" for younger voters to be motivated ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

The independent senator's comment stems from President Joe Biden's support of Israel in the midst of its war with the terrorist group Hamas in Gaza. Sanders did predict that the president would ultimately win over voters in the general election in November, especially if the Republican Party nominates former President Donald Trump as its candidate.

"But there is no question, it is very hard for young people — I think for most Americans, to be excited about what is going on right now," Sanders said on CNN's State of the Union. "President has got to change course."

Sanders went on to state that the United States cannot give "billions of dollars" to a country that "ignores your wishes." Because of this, he suggested that Biden tell Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. will withhold funding from Israel unless it changes its tactics in its war with Hamas in order to lower civilian casualties in Gaza.

The younger voting demographic in the U.S., which consists of those under the age of 35, has expressed disappointment with Biden’s response to the Israel-Hamas war. Trump currently has a lead among younger voters with 37% of support compared to Biden's 33%, according to recent polling data.

The 2020 presidential election saw the largest voter turnout of the 21st century, and young voters were a key group that helped deliver Biden to the White House. In that election, the turnout among voters under 35 was 57%, an increase of about 8 points from the same group in 2016, according to the Census Bureau.

The Iowa caucuses will begin on Monday, potentially being a key point in the Republican Party's 2024 presidential primary race. Trump is currently leading the primary against his opponents, meaning the 2024 election could end up being a rematch between him and Biden.

Biden needs to turn this around and fast.

Nobody expects Biden to join Pro-Palestinian protests, but he is alienating young voters by bypassing Congress to send weapons to Israel and continuing to excuse Israel's behavior.

No seriously, young voters were perfectly fine with Hillary until Berrie came in like a wrecking ball. Without him, none of this would be a problem at all.

Also: Bernie himself has enthusiastically backed Biden's Israel policy. It's really, really gross and disturbing at this point how you manage to make literally every single post an attack upon the Jews. I suggest you log off if not permanently than for a long time and take a long hard look at yourself, and ask yourself why everyone is so repulsed by your rhetoric. Maybe compare and contrast some of it to famous Nazi rhetoric to start to get an idea.

I am hardly a Sanders supporter, but he's right on the money.

Young voters see Biden as very wrong on this issue.

As a Democrat, it's painful to see Biden continue to shoot himself in the foot.

Biden should have sent a large ship of aid to Gaza.

If Israel would deny aid even from the US government, that would be an extremely bad look for them, and it'd mean it'd be time to cut off all support for them.

If you haven't noticed by now, Netanyahu is using Biden as a carpet and walking all over him.

Biden’s Levant policy isn’t endearing him to young voters, but he wasn’t a hero for us before that anyways. Housing, employment, and the general personal economic freeze we’re in has much more to do with it.

The are good indicators in the economy, but spending thousands of dollars a month to live within an hour of a barely livable salary isn’t the American dream.

Biden has no direct control over those other issues, but Biden has direct control over US policy toward Israel.

Remember, Biden is bypassing Congress to send weapons to Israel and continues to defend Israel's behavior.

The fact that Biden has a direct hand in it is why it's so problematic.

When did this juvenile idea that you have to be 'excited' to vote arise?

My Palestine sympathetic friends that Bernie probably has some sort of grapevine to through his past campaigns: "F*** this monster of a president."

Translated into Berniespeak: "Very hard" for young voters to "be excited."

If Biden was any weaker on Israel, he would be attacked relentlessly by the right in the same way they are attacking him for being weak on other foreign policy / border issues. He would lose far more people than just super online leftists who have their heads too far up their own a$$es to understand the gravity of a second Trump term.

But seriously, I'd like to give a sincere middle finger to Bernie, who continues to do more damage to our country than anyone other than Trump himself. Bernie needs to retire and be shunned from politics forever. He is absolutely one of the worst politicians in American history and words cannot describe just how much I loathe him.

Thinking that rightly pointing out that Biden is in the hole approval rating-wise in general and with young people in particular is anywhere near on par on Trump's covid policies, his SCOTUS appointees, his collusion with Russia etc. is pretty silly.

The right already attacked him on everything else, so it doesn't matter.

It might be worth saying that Iin Australia, preferential voting means that this is not much of a problem. In the US, without an excited base, you don't make it onto the battlefield.

Biden never had the base to begin with.

2020. Was anyone excited to vote for Biden in 2020 ?

People were voting against Trump. Not for Biden. This is also why the democrats lost 13 house seats.

Just by being a Democrat, he also started with a significant base.

Leftists are the ones who are equivocating Biden with Trump and refusing to vote because they think it won't make a difference, but go on
