Quote
WASHINGTON — Three migrants — a woman and two children — drowned in the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass Friday night after Texas National Guard soldiers blocked Border Patrol agents from reaching them, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar said Saturday.

BACKGROUND: Texas National Guard blocking Border Patrol from key stretch of Rio Grande, DOJ says

State officials had seized a 2.5-mile stretch of the border earlier this week, an unprecedented state takeover that the Department of Justice says prevents Border Patrol agents from reaching even migrants in need of emergency assistance.

If true, this is foul. Proper course of action is to bring them to shore safely and then immediately deport them.

Shame on Texas.

The State of Texas has no power to stop the Border Patrol from doing anything. Biden should federalize  the National Guard and end this nonsense.

The 10th Amendment allows them to do this.

Time for the murder charges for Abbott to become a reality.

Isn't immigration the federal government's territory? Doesn't the federal government have the power to act against the will of the states and not the other way around so long as the federal government isn't doing something unconstitutional?

Charge the Texas National Guardsmen who did this with murder and treason.

You are right. In the first instance, it is the federal governments responsibility.

I don't know the US Constitution very well, but the 10th amendment refers to a section saying that the states are allowed to take control of their borders when "the federal government is not doing it's job properly".

I would hazard a guess that 11,000 people per day qualifies as "the federal government is not doing it's job properly".

Clearly open to interpretation, but I do know this is their argument.

I'm normally weary of the federal government interfering on states' immigration policies, but Biden should step in to make sure that nothing of this nature will happen again.
