If the weather's good all you island monkeys should log off and already get celebrating outside

Unless of course the no confidence letters start pouring in. Then you can put the kettle on

In all seriousness though i maintain that Sunak should have gone for the Autumn election and ride off the coattails of the American Conservative psyops and astroturfing social media campaigns

Is this election less or more competitive than 1997? Don't really think a more boring election is possible now that it's one maje drama is over.

So one of the absolute final acts of this era of Tory government will be selling the Royal Mail to a Czech billionaire? Rather apt really.

An early July election clashes (mostly) with the start of the school holidays in Scotland. Not sure what the average stats are on foreign holidays and 'staycations' but it will be sizable. Postal votes will be a key part of GE messaging here.

Put it this way. 165 Tory MPs after this election would be considered a miraculous overperformance.

The weather in London today looks gloomy as the Tory's prospects for this election.

I've been working on something for the Scottish part of the election, that may or may not see the light of day. Here's the state of candidate selection, as of the start of this week, north of the border:

Will be hopelessly out of date by the end of the week, but just thought it was interesting as a snapshot. Labour and SNP ready everywhere, while Tory and Lib Dem focused on getting people ready in their very limited target list, and well behind elsewhere. Alba and Reform well below their targets for candidate numbers, but Greens likely to hit a record, at current rate of recruitment.

Although results were not declared until the 26th, polling day for the 1945 General Election was on Thursday the 5th of July.

The thread title can be edited now I suppose.

I shall start a new one once a formal announcement is made

Just looked up why there was a delay (took three weeks to get overseas votes, presumably for soldiers, in for counting). Are overseas votes usually counted faster these days or do they just have to arrive sooner now? I’ve never noticed a delay during the by-elections.

No need, in my view. You can use this one and just change the title.

Also the BBC News website is now leading with the speculation.

Seems like the Tories are gonna be kicked out on July 4th once again

The weather is very much not good - it appears that Sunak's speech is going to be delayed because it's raining too hard.

This also happened with Truss, of course.

I'm tempted to host/run an all nighter livestream for this place on election night. Might need some help but would be better than a Kuenssberg snooze fest.

Then she can spend it like 2017 where she just spouted various rumours which were mostly incorrect, during which it was clear David Dimbleby thought she was an attention seeker and loser

Nah, no need. We are all going to be watching the copium/doom-mongering hilarity that will be Sky News's coverage of a Labour landslide.

Off-the-charts meme potential for all the business with the podium just now.

Look, it wouldn't be a hastily called GE without social media lusting over "hot podium guy", who's the same guy every time.

Also GE date in-between last 16 and quarter finals of the Euros. So expect 'I dreamed of being a football' grandstanding from all sides. Depending on the results of course.

Oh my god... the rain... the "Things Can Only Get Better" blasting in the background. What a great start to the campaign.
