Yes, in Chechnya there will be 110% turnout with 99.9% of the votes going to one of the two PMs...

It would be better if they were like China instead, and admit to being a one-party state instead of pretending to have democracy.

UPDATE:

Mikhail Kasyanov got barred from participating in the election, because too many of the signatures he had handed in were supposedly forged... says the electoral commission.

This leaves us with four candidates: Medvedev, Zyuganov, Zhirinovsky, and Bogdanov.

I read in DER SPIEGEL this week that Andrei Bogdanov, despite his liberal/pro-Western appearance, is actually financed and controlled by the Kremlin, serving as a pseudo-opposition.

Also, Communist Gennady Zyuganov, the only real remaining opposition candidate, is apparently considering dropping out of the race, arguing that it won't be a fair election anyway.

New poll:

Medvedev - 80%
Zyuganov - 11%
Zhirinovsky - 9%
Bogdanov - 0.5%

Projected Turnout for March 2: 75%

The poll was conducted on February 8-11 among a sample of 1,600 respondents, with an error margin not exceeding 3 %.

http://en.rian.ru/russia/20080214/99234409.html

...

I´m wondering who will get more votes this year: Medvedev or Obama (if nominated) ?

With this turnout, Medvedev would get about 65 Mio. votes ...

Little surprise. The opposition is weak, and has little strength even thiugh I think Zhrivnosky is pro-Kremlin.

Guys, relax. There isn't an election in Russia scheduled for this year (or for any time soon).

Maybe Putin didn't like the idea of his golden child getting a larger percentage of the vote than him. So he's messaging the poll numbers a bit. Wink

This is very bad for United Russia? Only 69% supporting its candidate?

Development of the poll results:

Will Medvedev break 90% on March 2?

What a "9/11"-like surge!

Probably just increased turnout.

Or Putin being jealous of Medvedev's polling numbers passing his own best electoral performance?

Data from the Russian Electoral Commission (broadcast by Russia Today). Colours as used by the Russian Electoral Commissions

Andrey Bogdanov 125,230 votes (1.50%)
Dmitry Medvedev 5,400,004 votes (64.54%)
Vladimir Zhirinovsky 1,067,795 votes (12.76%)
Gennady Zyuganov 1,658,795 votes (19.83%)

At the bottom of the screen there is a figure of 15.92%. I'm assuming this is votes counted / stations reporting.

Some more data based on maps

Zhirinovsky's base appears to be in the southeastern corner of Russia.
Zyuganov's base appears to be on the North Russian coast
For someone so barnstormingly in the lead, his vote seems to be not as widespread as the vote suggests (with only 3 districts convincingly voting for him)

I am taking pics of the graphics to post in the gallery shortly

And since the middle word spells "protokolov", I would assume it's polling stations reported.
