Milei is incredibly moderate on this issue for an Argentinian and the rest of his foreign policy is very Pro America(Anti China, Anti Russia, Anti Venezuela, and Pro Israel.) Infact Milei even praised Thatcher as one of his heroes in Argentina of all places !

Let's allow the people who live there to decide.  The last time they did so was in a referendum ten years ago, and the result was only 99.8% in favor of British control.

Argentine politicians basically have to say this. I'm not worried.

Well, he's sort of right about the 'Non-Negotiable' part, just from the opposite side of actually holding sovereignty. Tongue

This is literally just something he has to say. We'll see if the Argentines are still obsessing over the Falklands when their standard of living, GDP, and purchasing power all shoot up. A few rocks in the Atlantic aren't that essential to national pride when you actually have other things to be proud of.

This important part. Milei literally said on the campaign he doesn't really care about the issue, but now that he's in office he has to feign it. But he has made it clear where his true passions in politics lie, and they arn't here.

England's greatest ever Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, would have destroyed this chainsaw wielding lunatic today, as she would have in 1983.

Margaret Thatcher quote:

"When you are at war you cannot allow the difficulties to dominate your thinking: you have to set out with an iron will to overcome them," Thatcher writes in Downing Street Years, her 1993 memoir.

''And anyway what was the alternative? That a common or garden dictator should rule over the queen's subjects and prevail by fraud and violence? Not while I was prime minister."

But her soaring popularity and place in history was not always assured.

Englands Most Love Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher (Getty Images)

"In bloody night-time hand-to-hand fighting, the Argentine army conscripts proved little match for the highly-trained British Paras and Royal Marine Commandos.

The Gurkhas, in particular, struck terror into the hearts of Argentine troops who were cold, wet, miserable and demoralised, dug in on the windswept Falklands hills.

Argentina surrendered on June 14, and the Union Jack was hoisted in the Falklands capital Port Stanley by exhausted but jubilant troops."

Seriously though, he quite plainly doesn’t care and is only saying this because he has to. He’s probably the least invested in the Falklands Argentina has had in decades.

Hmm

it's not just a few rocks in the atlantics. It's also about the resources on it and the coastal waters surrounding of it, and a lot of that is oil.

Quote
1) North Falklands Basin
200 kilometres to the north of the islands, it is estimated that there are 325 million barrels of recoverable oil. The oil is at a depth of between 2000-3500 m below the sea floor — which is 450 m below sea-level.

2) South and East Falklands Basins
This basin covers a larger area than the North Falklands Basin. 200 miles from the islands — stretching in an arc from east of the islands to directly south of the islands. The sea floor is between 1000 and 1500 m deep — with the oil 2000-3500 m below the sea floor. There could be up to 5 billion barrels of oil or gas in the fields. In comparison, the world’s largest oil field is thought to be the Safaniya oil field in the Persian Gulf — recoverable reserves of 36 billion barrels.

It's probably worth it for Argentina to go to war with Britain over this, in particular because I seriously question Britain's willingness to defend those isles.

A surprise attack and than a war of attrition would probably something Argentian would do well in, in particular if it focuses on disrupting ship traffic from Britain to Falklands, and given I seriously question the willingness of British citizens to go very far in defending those islands (with only 3000 people on it).

I don't think he does this. If he does, well, the Tories' chances got much better for another term perhaps?

A plan that famously did not work when Argentine army and navy were swimming in money because they ran the country is surely going to be a guaranteed success today when they have a half dozen rustbuckets and submarines that can only go down.

Given how our armed forces have been cut back, we probably mess it up anyway.

But what others have already said - those seeing this as a bellicose statement are if anything divining the opposite of the actual truth.
