hal rogers or chris smith should run as elder statesmen of the house gop and be a caretaker speaker or maybe gaetz can do it

Smith is still way too moderate, even though he's unfortunately more of a party man than he used to be.

Smith's real problem isn't his moderation—which is more of an "all extremes" type—but his eclecticism (or syncretism?). He's not fit for party or even House leadership because he goes his own way too often.

I don't necessarily agree that he's changed much; he's just emphasizing different things these days which have always been a part of his record.

Lol

OT: My calc II professor in college recalled having a high school math teacher named "Mr. Timothy McVay".  Quite the unfortunate name to have in the mid-90's...

There was a guy named McVey who is a loan analyst on the team we were writing tools for.

With politicals instincts like this…

Also - per Jake Sherman, most of the 20 rebels met, and seem to have affirmed their opposition to Jordan. If he’s also p***ed off Scalise’s allies as badly as is being briefed, then Jordan might really be screwed. Of course, it might all have changed by the morning. But it hardly sounds like momentum for ol’ Jim tonight.

He is also one of the most anti-choice members of the House. If the GOP want him to be the face of their conference that they settled for, I'd be fine with that too, as a Democrat.

I wonder what Joe Morrissey would be doing if he had won that special election earlier in the year.

Is there any confirmed movement away from Jordan? I've seen at least a couple (LaMalfa for one) go the opposite way.

I understand that there's a lot of uncertainty right now, but am I right in guessing that Jordan is most likely just screwed at this point? It seems like he and his team haven't really been able to make any breakthroughs since the vote this afternoon. It actually appears they've been going in the wrong direction.

I just don't see how Jordan can break through to the holdouts. He might be able to convince some of them to vote present, but that would leave basically no room for error - and could risk a Speaker Jeffries.

This better not go into the 6 PM hour! I am going to be watching Barbie with pizza on UHD which comes out today and I wanted my attention just on that.

Thank you to repubs for delaying. I was able to enjoy Barbie & pizza without interruption.

What was your favorite part? I was laughing out loud when the Kens' favorite song was revealed.

What I find interesting here is that this is the umpteenth Republican who has basically totally denied the even slight idea of Democrats working with them on something, yet the Democrats were the ones who have constantly been asked by the media why this is taking so long, what about a deal, etc. The Republicans are the only side who have completely closed the book on this, yet the Democrats are the ones that keep getting asked about it. Truly amazing.

How is this not a sitcom? Equally hilarious and atrocious if true. The man and his supporters are gremlins.

I’m on vacation and have been offline most of the day. Just catching up on all the news. This would be hilarious if it wasn’t so pathetic.
