I know Jordan being speaker helps Dems in the long run but man is it bad for the country. I legit would rather Gaetz than Jordan. He is HORRIFIC in so many ways

Jordan being speaker helps democrats like Trump being president did. It does objectively benefit but do you really want to win solely because you’re opponents are not just incompetent but an actual threat to democracy ?

They have to work to prevent a Govt shutdown with Biden anyways and Biden isn't gonna be called a flip flipper like Kerry as his advisor heading so close to Eday, so regardless of whom is R Speaker they will have to compromise

If they have the votes to block him, just get it over with already so we can move on to whoever is next. I wonder if they'll just vote to give McHenry the ability to run the House because I still don't see any Dem/R coalition happening.

This is proof Nate Silver does not know anything about Basketball. First of all Jordan failed to make the playoffs in his 2 years with the Wizards but even if you discount that , he still lost to the Magic in the 1995 ECSF.

Everything I’m seeing indicates he does, but his path there isn’t challenging the caucus nominee, and it would remove him from future consideration.

Actually the opposite: from what I’ve read, all indications were that McHenry was going to retire at the end of the Congress and take a lucrative corporate job before this Speakership mess started and he was elevated to his position.

Well either way, if he wants it, nothing he's done so far on the floor indicates otherwise.

JFC. Well at least that means Jordan doesn't have the votes tonight. Surely there has to be 4 Republicans that will stand firm and block him.

Republicans are really following the English tradition of having to literally drag someone to the speaker’s chair

Seems like Jordan has enough personal enemies to keep him from winning. He's not a likable person and even as far gone as the Republican Party has gone there are a few of them who know that he's a liability.

Good thing they don't vote by going into lobbies or we'd already be hearing reports of "jostling, manhandling, bullying and shouting".

LaMalfa confirmed FLIP McCarthy -> Jordan

States that his McCarthy vote was cast as a protest of his ouster and only made because his vote didn’t matter; supports Jordan going forward.

That's a lovely background.

I mean, it's still a lot less pathetic than the typical backroom pro forma elections like 1999 and 2015. The pathetic part is Jordan trying to make deals that aren't there and nobody else doing anything to force a vote.

Who knew the "red wave" was going to be a bunch of fruitless votes just to elect a speaker. Wave after wave of pointless votes.

They should just keep voting all night. Let the nominating speeches continue even after the Members giving them become tired and emotional and just start slurring out barely coherent nominating speeches.

Mt. Shasta and Northern California is an excellent place to vacation in nature. Its just that California has so many more famous Parks, Forests, and natural wonders that this aspect of the North (among many other aspects) gets forgotten.

hal rogers or chris smith should run as elder statesmen of the house gop and be a caretaker speaker or maybe gaetz can do it

Smith is still way too moderate, even though he's unfortunately more of a party man than he used to be.

If anything it shows he knows what he is talking about considering the Pistons and Bulls rivalry of that era.    The 1990 Game 7 ECF loss against the arch rivals was certainly a bigger loss than the one to the Magic or not making the playoffs
