Fox News “journalism”: So are you going to support this extreme candidate for Speaker or do you want America and the world to burn. Also have you stopped beating your wife

Reminds me of what Alan Jones was pulling during the Turnbull ouster.

Predictions for how many votes Jordan gets on the first ballot? I’ll say 175.

I'll go just a bit higher than this and say 180. Still nowhere near enough to become Speaker, and well below McCarthy's first ballot total from January.

The guy hasn't had a single bill pass the House in the 16 years he's been in congress... and Republicans controlled the chamber for most of that time! I definitely wouldn't think of him as the ideal candidate to "get back to the business of governing"... as if the Republicans were ever even in that business to begin with.

"Willing to block his path to the floor"? What does that mean? I doubt any of these people really know.

There’s either not actually going to be a vote or people are just saying things and he will be speaker in two days, right? Else, maybe everything everyone is thinking about the Republican caucus is true and things will not get better until they get worse. You can even make the argument that everything bad that has happened in the last week has been because of the perceived inability of this group.

Who's likely to be the top non-Jordan candidate? Emmer? Bacon? Fitzpatrick? Scott? Someone else entirely?

Buck maybe? Anyways, I don't see anyone of the 221 GOP reps that would get to 217 votes at this point. They could probably run through all 221 of them in each round and none would get above 210 votes. Most of them, I guess, not even 200. Like Jordan. 55 nays is too much of a stretch.

As far fetched as it sounds, I think a coalition vote for speaker is more likely than 217 Republicans agreeing on one candidate. All of the candidates post-McCarthy are far more extreme and divisive than Kevin ever was.

There are Twitter reports that Rep. Mike Rogers has now endorsed Jordan, which would be a huge get for him.  He might make it after all.

They're in a lose lose either way; even if Jordan does win this, he's going to be a huge albatross over the entire conference's neck, including the Biden district Republicans.

Yup, or he'll "cave" to Biden and the moderates and makes a relative reasonable budget deal, which will lead to his downfall just as it happened to McCarthy.

I'd be amazed if Jordan manages to get the Speaker role while Scalise couldn't. It would be an unmistakeable sign that Trumpism really is the main ideology of the GOP now, even among mainstream establishment Rs.

I wonder if these moronic Reps realize that a vote for Jordan is a 100% guaranteed vote for a government shutdown in like a month. There is no way that an emboldened Jordan would ever allow anything on the floor that Biden would even consider signing into law.

I still doubt he gets to 217 votes, but good lord at the failed state that is the House Republican Conference.

Never want to hear anyone talk about “moderate” Republicans again. These guys have the backbone of a chocolate eclair.

Pretty sure they’re fine with it because they likely think the economic fallout from the shutdown will be blamed on Biden and help in 24

This is a good thing though, right? Nobody here wants a shutdown or no Speaker during an international crisis after all.

Of course not. That doesn't mean we have to accept Jim f--king Jordan as Speaker in order to avoid those crises.

But anything terrible he does won’t pass a Democratic Senate or Presidential veto pen.

The proposed election of Jordan will lead to a shutdown by the end of the year, and is arguably worse than 'no Speaker'.

It's not just what he passes, it's what he refuses to bring to the floor vs. what he does decide to bring to the floor. Why, during a time of international crisis, do we need a Biden impeachment? Why, during a time of international crisis, do we need to hold government funding hostage just to score political points for the next election? Jim Jordan is a purely political, self-interested actor. He does not represent functioning government, he represents giving the vampires the keys to the blood bank.

I remain skeptical that Jordan has the votes, but it would be incredibly funny to watch Speaker Jordan quickly learn why Rep. Jordan was so viscerally hated by past speakers.

If Jim Jordan ends up Speaker then this whole episode was a mistake on the part of the Democrats. Jim Jordan is an absolute disaster. Even if he only lasts a few weeks before being torpedoed by his own party, I don't see what was gained from this.
