On one of the finer points that was brought up, we have had at least two Speakers who were not natural citizens, Charles Crisp and David Henderson.

So you're saying there's a chance?

"Informal" talks between Jeffries and Republicans. Apprently Jeffries want bills to get floor votes if they have signifcant support from both parties.

That said, there were "talks" in January that went no where

Lmao, imagine him not getting even 160 votes on the floor in the first round. I wonder whether at some point it could be enough for Jeffries to win with a lowered threshold as a result of enough absence members.

I am praying they hold that floor vote so Gym Jordan can be humiliated by his own party.

Agree.
I hope the No's for this trump-loving moron stays at around 50-55.
That would be hilarious.

They just need to hold a vote. That's the only way to map out where everyone stands.

It's looking like, (finally!) starting Tuesday, Jordan is gonna start playing the same game of chicken with holdouts fighting on the floor ballot after ballot that Kevin had to in Jan. lol

This House of Cards reboot is better than the original.
Idk, it's just too unbelievable for me. They seemed to have suspended all sense of reality.

I thought that too, until real world events brought home to me how truth is stranger than fiction, as the saying goes...

That's because fiction needs to have at least a veneer of plausibility or it won't sell, while reality isn't similarly constrained.

It is amusing, though.  Back in 2017, I wrote an AH about the 1968 election that turned on an absentee ballot fraud scheme in North Carolina.  I almost didn't write it that way because it seemed so wildly implausible.  What happened in the 2018 midterms?  There was a House race that was affected by an absentee ballot fraud scheme...in North Carolina.

I don't thinnk he cracks 200.

The only way a Speaker gets elected is if both Jordan and Scalice agree on a power sharing agreement between them, with a 3rd person as their puppet Speaker.

Quote
... One senior Republican House member who is part of the opposition to Jordan told CNN that there he believes there are roughly 40 “no” votes, and that he has personally spoken to 20 members who are willing to go to the floor and block Jordan’s path if the Ohio Republican forces a roll-call vote on Tuesday.

If there are even 40 (vs 55) that's impossible to get past.
They are going to need to make a deal with the Dems to get a consensus candidate.

We do not have "raging inflation", it's literally 3.7%. So sick of that talking point.

I do think McHenry will ultimately be made Speaker in some sort of deal with Democrats. That seems infinitely more likely than the GOP coalescing around one person.

It's not like they've even done anything about it with their pathetic majority.

Fox News “journalism”: So are you going to support this extreme candidate for Speaker or do you want America and the world to burn. Also have you stopped beating your wife

Predictions for how many votes Jordan gets on the first ballot? I’ll say 175.

Who's likely to be the top non-Jordan candidate? Emmer? Bacon? Fitzpatrick? Scott? Someone else entirely?
