I have no objection to the amendment. I thought certain senators would be opposed to a straight hand out of federal cash, so I included the contingency to force local buy-in. But I’m certainly not opposed to pork barrel patronage spending.

LOL.

You don't know how similar this is to Belgian legislation.

A "The federal government pays a metro line in Flanders"
B "But we want one as well"
A "Ok, here you go, some money for a metro line in Wallonia"
B "thanks"

Result

We have a ghost metro network now in one of our cities, because the city is too small too support such a huge metro network.

And this is Belgian politics in a nutshell, usually with a very left-wing south and a very right-wing north that continuously argue over everything and nothing.

And secession things, yeah lol. In the late 2000s, the french-speaking public broadcasting union announced that Flanders did secede for the lols, and an entire evening events were simulated as to prepare the nation for an eventual split-up.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flemish_Secession_hoax

___

Despite the allocation of money to the South, we still see their senators reject free federal money for the South.

____

But anyways, an Aye vote
