Throughout the entire debate, DeSantis was practically nonexistent, which isn’t an option for him at all given his declining poll numbers. He got less screen time than many of the people polling in the MOE of eachother (Haley, Pence, etc), and hesitated to raise his hand in regards to supporting Trump should he be convicted, and ending aid to Ukraine.

I couldn’t help but think that this was very similar to what had went down with Scott Walker in 2016. Scott Walker similarly barely had any screen time vis-a-vis the other candidates, with Trump dominating the stage. Two months later, Walker had dropped out in shame.

Back in 2015, I actually predicted that Scott Walker would be the GOP nominee (when many others were talking Jeb Bush).

I realized my mistake after that first debate. Good memories.

I thought it was similar, but worse.

His most memorable line of the night was a sheepish "I have no beef with Mike Pence."

His second most memorable line was his opener, a frightening and clumsily-delivered declaration that "AMERICA IS IN DECLINE."

I can’t blame ya. It seemed like it would be either Walker or Jeb! for a long time.
