It might seem implausible because one needs theSUPPORT of the base to win the primary, but suppose Trump is kept off the ballot and shenanigans take place to install Desantis, hutchinson, mike pence, or will hurd. Would any of them so demoralzie the base that even the reddest of red states come into play? e.g. so many people stay home when will hurd was installed, meanwhile Marianne Williamson offers an exciting progressive visionary message. Might the WWC in WV get so revved up that Williamson is competitive there?

Williamson would lose every state to the right of New York.

I don't think such a candidate exists. The Republican nominee can probably rely on a minimum of 15 or so states (basically everything from Indiana rightward) in all scenarios other than a full party split where Trump runs as an independent.

I think the only person who could feasibly win the nomination and lose in a landslide (barring unexpected events or revelations between the primary and general) is Donald Trump. A convicted felon as a major party nominee is unprecedented and has the potential to completely turn away all moderate/swing voters, even if they disapprove of Biden.

I feel like if Williamson manage to win a primary then she tapping into something that might be a force to be reckon with.

I don’t think any candidate from a major party in 2024 would lose that badly. There are two many people who would vote for a pile of smelly socks with the correct letter next to its name.

I seriously think the R’s could get away with this next time there’s an open Senate seat in Wyoming. Even if the D’s were to run popular former governor Freudenthal, Pile of Smelly Socks (R) would probably receive double the number of votes.

If a Republican alienated the base in a serious way (like if they somehow nominated Romney or Christie lol) I can see a third party winning states like WV. But WY is very much an establishment GOP state that would vote for any R (Liz Cheney lost cause she even alienated the establishment).

Christie, Hutchinson, Pence or some other neutral to anti-Trump Republican somehow getting through the primary, defeating Trump, and causing them to be the new focus of his scorn.
