...A frontrunner for a presidential nomination who is criminally indicted in four different states.

In New York, he is indicted for bribing a pornographic actress to cover up an extramarital affair.

In Washington, DC, he is indicted for inciting insurrection in an attempt to overthrow a democratic election in a case unprecedented in 250 years.

In Georgia, he is indicted for the same, as are his chief of staff and top lawyers.

In Florida, he is indicted for deliberately stealing classified state secrets and refusing to relinquish them, including nuclear secrets.

Now imagine that this man is the frontrunner for the Republican Party nomination, and all opposing candidates refuse to criticize him for any of this, and even defend him.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

After 2016, should any of this really be surprising?

We entered the dimension when he attacked McCain's war service and his numbers went up.

I think it's good and useful to remember just how far beyond the pale that both Trump and his support among the GOP really are. This is historically unprecedented, which is part of what makes it so worrying to America's future. It's not healthy.

You know, in a sane world, no person that attempted to launch a coup would even be permitted to run for office ever again. Democracy must defend itsself from those who seek to undermine it, even when said forces attempt to do so via power won through democratic elections.

Ergo, Mr. Trump should be banned from running for office under the 14th Amendment in a sane world. Or just have been impeached after J6 and barred from seeking the presidency ever again. That's why I have little sympathy for certain GOP Establishment figures complaing about his 2024 standing. McTurtleman could have ended it but he didn't have the balls to convict. It's very likely his vote would have covered for more to vote the same. The 51 votes to barr him from running would have been a lock subsequently.

To be fair, anyone who's ever looked at Free Republic since the 2000s would know how unpopular McCain was to the base. Especially after 2008.

I knew they thought he was too moderate especially on the border, but I honestly thought they respected his war service and everything he went through.

If you’d told Republicans of 8-10 years ago that such a man would one day be their guy those same Republicans would be horrified.

There’s a scary willful ignorance and treachery crippling the sanity out of the GOP. There are so few sane and patriotic Republicans left.

Welcome to the post-Trump United States. This is the living hell the GOP created for us, and we're trapped in it until they reach some sort of otherworldly enlightenment.

In a sane world, Trump would've just been a fringe candidate in the 2016 Republican primaries.
