Listless vessels is way less catchy than basket of deplorables.

He's fortunate that no Republican primary voter knows what either of those words mean.

No. Trump hasn't said anything about it. Most people don't go on Truth Social. And that's basically calling them sheeple. Deplorable is more of a character insult.

Back in 2010 Chris Matthews had a remarkable moment, discussing the possibility of Sarah Palin running for president in 2012, where he said "Is there anybody in the Republican party who could debate her right now and outshine her? ... Who could outshine her right now because she's got nothing going on right now mentally."

Matthews pretty clearly meant it as a criticism along the lines of "I can't believe someone can't figure out how to surpass her, given that she knows nothing about policy" but I think he unintentionally made a more interesting insight: It was hard to outshine Palin among base Republicans *because* she knew nothing about policy and was simply a charismatic personality throwing constant red meat to a base that cared more about having their hatred of Obama validated than they cared about actually governing. Trump was the first person in Republican presidential politics to do the same thing even more effectively than Palin did, and that same approach of prioritizing charismatic personality and validating the base's rage against their cultural enemies - while not caring much about actual governing policy, where someone like DeSantis can points to lots of (bad) legislative accomplishments - continues to dominate with the far-right primary voters.

He is having a broken clock moment here, but this really could be a death-knell. I don't even want to give him that much credit because essentially all he really wants is to be that center of a personality cult instead.

Not to mention that Clinton's infamous "basket of deplorables" comment in proper context was intended to be a defense (albeit a poorly worded one) of the soft Trump supporters who aren't associated with less tasteful aspects of the nation's right. DeSantis is just straight up insulting them, even if it is the harsh truth that they're going to hate hearing. Clinton actually might have been too generous.

A boat shouldn't have too much of list to begin with,  too much would be tantamount to capsizing.

Yes. The HRC quote was clipped and posted out of context mercilessly. Which i assume this will be too.

He should drop out, back his wife to 'replace' him as governor, and become dictator for life of Florida.

"Listless vessel" is an apt description of the typical Trump supporter circa 2023, and deliciously rich with contempt.

This comes across like a musing from someone who's about to tell primary voters that they're just not worthy of him. That could get interesting.
