People who spend a lot of time at fairs tend to be weird in general

That's a fair point.

A state fair is definitely closer to the social median than this forum.

Well sure, but no one is paying attention to Talk Elections Forum polling either.

Ahead of the first big weekend, about 770 votes have been cast in the R primary, 250 in the D primary and 30 in the L primary:

42% Trump
18% DeSantis
13% Scott
 9% Ramaswamy
 4% Johnson
 4% Haley
 3% Burgum
 3% Pence

64% Biden
18% Kennedy
18% Williamson

Surprisingly similar to actual Iowa media polls.

But the Iowa Fair straw poll results are not weighted by gender, age, education etc. and don't reflect primary voters.

Some fair visitors could also be from out-of-state, even though I think 95% of them are actually from Iowa.

I'm also not sure if people can vote twice or several times during the day or not.

Or if children under the age of 18 can vote too. Or out-of-staters.

The poll is run by the Secretary of State, so they might ask voters if they are under 18, from out of Iowa, or if they have already cast a ballot in the sraw poll before. Does anyone know?

The sort of people who go to this thing are the sort of people who would show up to the Democratic Primary (that most people assume is in the bag for Biden already).

Very interesting that both Marianne and Kennedy are around 18%.

On the Republican side its about what I expected. Trump easily leads but with a smaller vote share (this is gonna be one of his worst states).
Scott is doing pretty well, Johnson doing well is a shocker, Hutchinson is doing abysmally despite focusing his whole campaign here. Pence is also doing really really badly even though this is the state he's focusing his campaign on too.

Just noticed that Christie is missing and has no votes.

Maybe a mistake, or maybe intended?

What? A state fair in Iowa does NOT at all represent the average Democratic primary voter nationwide.

I disagree, I think the uncompetitive nature of the dem primary means it will have very low turnout, which means only the Democrats most deeply involved in politics will show up.

Does anyone know if the Iowa State Fair has a sky ride and if they serve elephant ears? Or does that only happen out West?

That is purely conjecture. There is no evidence to back your statement up whatsoever.

If by sky ride you mean like gondola I know SC has one, and the elephant ears/funnel cakes.

You have to wonder, on which side of 80 is the median Perry Johnson supporter?

Trump has gained considerably since the last update in this thread.  Now Trump 47/DeSantis 17/Scott 11/Ramaswamy 9.  On the Dem side, Biden is now down to 58%!

With Williamson ahead of RFK Jr. Interesting.

Are there any people of color in Iowa?
Seems that video and images show like 99% white folks running around for these GOP candidates at the fair.

Des Moines is pretty diverse. But I imagine the vast majority of people going to the State Fair are traveling from outside the city.

Well, the one at least holds positions not totally out of step with the party's mainstream.
