There are many good reasons to dislike Chavez. This isn't one of them.

Banning a popular product by executive decree isn't?

The fact that he wanted to be able to rule by decree should have tipped you off in the first place that Chavez wasn't a leader to be trusted. Still, as has been said if this, among all the things you could turn on him for, is what makes you turn on him it speaks highly of how shallow your politics are.

Why would I have problems with him nationalizing industries or seizing land from the rich? Maybe if I was a libertarian or conservative yes, I would, but I'm not.

Exactly, why would you care?  You are a blissful, American college student who parties and goes to shows.  Chavez's policies do not have a concrete impact on you.   OTOH, if you were a Venezuelan who worked there a$$ off for forty years only to have a good deal of it taken away from you - you may feel a bit different.

How about the part with him becoming essentially a dictator who can rule by decree?

And if not, then you could at least not try and pretend that you care about anyone in the world other than yourself.

That did worry me somewhat but he did use that power responsibly until now.

And if not, then you could at least not try and pretend that you care about anyone in the world other than yourself.

If I didn't I wouldn't have much reason to hate Pinochet and call Bush a war criminal.

Yeah, and Hitler used his power responsibly until he did irresponsible things.  Not to say that Chavez is the next Hitler, but this is just what happens when one guy gets in the position where nothing will ever or can ever oppose him.

If I didn't I wouldn't have much reason to hate Pinochet and call Bush a war criminal.

So you were fine with Hugo Chavez, but then he decides to temporarily ban the sale of alcohol over a holiday and you want him thrown out on his ass through a coup?

Sorry, but I'm not exactly buying the idea that that's because you're so concerned about the Venezualan people.

Like I said, I wasn't 100% OK with that. This is just the tipping point so to speak.

Of course I am. Who else would I be concerned about? It's not like Chavez is stopping me from drinking.

This may be the dumbest thread in the history of this forum.

I have something to request of moderators.  I don't think BRTD should be banned from this site at all, but can we at least for once ban him from starting threads.  Please?

BRTD, this is easily one of your most ridiculously dumb threads ever.

This may be the dumbest thread in the history of this forum.

Guys, guys!  Don't challenge him!

It's because you clearly have no understanding whatsoever of the consequences of either.

No, this is the reason to dislike him, obviously.

Yes. But it's the only one which matters to BRTD, apparently.

The funny thing is that if someone had done this as a parody of BRTD none of us would have bought it because it would have been too stupid.

I'm tempted to let him know how Castro treats homosexuals.  Perhaps that would be good for a rant on how evil Castro is?

BRTD it seems like you are destined to learn about socialism/communism/collectivism the hard way.

I think that's a bit unfair on socialism/communism/collectivism, any person who consistently believes in any of them should know that they aren't going to be adjusted to take exception to their own specific lifestyle (e.g. BRTD and stripclubs)..
