Neither are close to my favorite genre, but I can appreciate rap much more than country.

The best country is better than the best rap, but the average rap is better than average country.

Completely disagree. Rap has high highs and low lows. Country music is consistently mediocre.

There are more country songs I like than rap songs, as low as the number of both is, so I guess country.

Country on the whole, though there is some rap and rap-like music that is outstanding.

Although I suppose my answer is rap if stuff like this counts as rap, although I'm told here that it does not:

First off, it's hip hop. Few Fans have called it rap since before Biggie and Tupac got shot. Calling it rap makes someone sound like a soccer mom.

Having established that, there's obviously some great music from both genres. Love me some public enemy, love me some Dwight yoakam. Love me some Outkast, love me the chicks. There are many more, but the end result is the same.

Neither is my primary choice of genre. With a gun like that I think probably enjoy listening to hip hop radio more than country radio nowadays so much of the national problem on radio news this focus group tested mass produced only nominating jinguistic swill grand, much improp radio is likewise mass-produced flash in the pans don't hold what's interest for long, but again if forced to choose...

Country/folk music has more resonance with me than either rap or hip-hop.  The latter are just too alien to me.

Definitely country.  I still believe there's a correlation between sh**tty rap music going mainstream in the 2000s/2010s and the rise in violent crime.  When all the music young people listens to talks about killing people and selling dope it normalizes these behaviors. Country music meanwhile tells a story and teaches more acceptable values, like respecting your elders, being patriotic, etc.

Moral posturing aside I still appreciate the art form certain early rap artists presented in their work (NWA, Snoop/Dre, Eminem) vs the modern day autotuned mumble garbage.

"Cocaine Blues" is just as or more violent a song as anything I've ever heard from rap, and indeed Snoop cites Johnny Cash as an influence. In some ways he's the OG "gangsta rapper."

The idea that music causes crime is ridiculous and always has been. A correlation between the type of music one listens to and their predisposition to criminality MAY exist, but that does NOT imply causation.

Country, narrowly. The genre has been established for a lot longer, so it's easy to go back decades and think of a bunch of country artists I like. But maybe a few decades down the road, it'll be the same for rap.
