I think he's screwed. If all Democrats vote to convict then it just takes 9/19 Republicans to vote guilty. Considering how lopsided the impeachment vote in the House was that should be pretty easy.

I don't really see a scenario where they have the votes in the House but not in the Senate considering he is a member of the majority party.

The key is who will replace Paxton vs who can replace Paxton in the long run.

Yes, it seems clear Republicans have decided he's a liability they'd rather just replace.

What is most disturbing is the fact that he was re-elected by 10 points in a neutral year. It further leads credence to my theory Texas is going to get massively redder in 2024

Define "Massively redder".

Well, I should have clarified I meant with someone other than Trump. Trump is a poor fit for Texas but he'll still win it. But anyone else would win by 12-13 or so

His wife is literally a member of the Senate and considering it's a much smaller body he also has a lot more influence over and friendships with each individual member. It's also a more Conservative institution by its nature.

Also, if Trump decides to go all in on trying to rally his base for Paxton then I think that also could sway things.

We'll see, but I've got very little faith in the institutions of government in our state.

If he loses his pension upon removal he'll quit.
