I saw this post on Twitter showing Mike Lawler defeating Kathy Hochul by about 0.58 percent in the 2026 Governors race:

Could this be at all possible? Or could Hochul narrowly escape defeat again?

I think if Republicans want to beat Hochul in 2026, they should look at Malliotakis. I'm not sure they have anyone else who can be competitive in New York City.

Something about the way Lawler looks makes me not trust him even to hold my ice cream

I would think Houchul would avoid being caught napping again but it is possible, although quite unlikely.

I think you would need a good GOP campaign and a Biden six year itch to give it even a 15% chance of happening.

Whoever wins the NYGOP has to be pro-choice, NY doesn't elect antichoicers...

I suppose it could happen if crime spirals out of control and Biden becomes insanely unpopular, but I wouldn’t bet on that. I suspect Hochul will win by significantly more than she did in 2022 in 2026, but I could be wrong.

There is little point in speculating about an election four years from now and if Hochul runs for a second term I don't think she will take the race from granted like she did in 22 and will actually campaign for it and not focus her campaign on one issue until polls narrowed.

Malliotakis wouldn't be competitive in NYC. Lawler is a much more skilled politician. I don't think he could win, though.

She won't win the primary

That's what people don't understand.  Hochul is an UPSTATE Democrat who is occupying the Governor's Mansion that NYC Democrats think that they own.

That UPSTATE Democrats occupy the Governorship and one Senate seat is galling to NYC Democrats, and I suspect that they are going to do something about that soon.

Why do you say that? I see little point in speculating about a four years from now.

Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time.

Basically every conviction he got has been overturned since the Supreme Court has essentially legalized corruption.
