What senate candidates will do better if Trump was the GOP nominee vs. if it’s DeSantis?

Trump gets a bunch of low propensity voters to the poll here in Montana who otherwise stay home so whoever goes up against Tester would benefit. If it's DeSantis instead I think Tester is safe.

If we’re talking about from POV of Republicans, probably challengers in the Midwestern states, plus WV and MT.

Probably R candidates in WV/MT as well as WI/MI/PA.
Trump on the ballot probably helps the GOP in the Senate lol.

Trump is a stronger general election candidate than DeSantis is, but DeSantis would be better for down ballot Republicans.

Virtually every downballot Republican does better with DeSantis as the nominee since there's some contingent of DeSantis voters who would stay home if Trump was the nominee and a contingent of Trump voters who would stay home in a Biden/DeSantis race, and both of these groups would show up if DeSantis was the nominee, as both DeSantis and Trump would be on the ballot in such a situation. It'd be worst case scenario for the party for winning the White House but best case scenario downballot.

Interesting, I’d actually say the opposite.

DeSantis: Rick Scott

Trump: Everyone else of consequence.

If Trump wins, most run ahead of him anyway. If Trump loses, he runs ahead of them.

My theory is that you're more likely to see ticket-splitting with Trump on the ballot.

I think voters who prefer Trump over DeSantis are less likely to be partisan Republicans, so they'd be more likely to vote for a Democrat down ballot. Voters who prefer DeSantis over Trump are more likely to be swing voters who, if they're still voting for Biden over DeSantis, would want to have a "check" on Biden by voting for a Republican for Congress.
