Why do you think the benefits of school vouchers outweigh the costs, when it's VERY very clear that the children in poor communities will do even worse when students abandon their schools? Is it more important that middle class kids get as good of an education as possible, even when it f__ks over the poor kids and gives them an even worse education?
Vouchers benefit poor kids too
How?
Poor Families are eligible to receive Vouchers too
So all the students, poor and not poor, will be able to move out of the bad schools and move to better schools?
Yes

So the bad schools will have zero students and close down. Why would the government authorize such a program if it would close a bunch of schools?

Well the entire point is to increase competition to incentive the administrators of the school to do a better job running the school.

I generally don’t see the point why the public vs private matters as much as ensuring every kid gets a good education.

Private schools and religious schools can teach things that the government believes aren't true, being paid for by taxpayers, under a voucher system. That would by definition not be considered "a good education", according to the government funding it.

-How surprised are you that you were able to achieve 40k posts here?

-Why do you think the Oregon state GOP has failed to win gubernatorial elections since the 80's?

-Would you rather surpass Xahar in total posts or have Yellowhammer unbanned?

- It’s not really that difficult to rack up 10-15 posts a day as people think and really doesn’t take much time either

- Internally the party is very divided here among a wing that is basically like Charlie baker and ones who are extremely extremely right wing and appeasing both is very difficult. It leads to extremely milquetoast campaigns like the one Drazan ran in 2022 where she attempted to run a campaign where she didn’t offend anyone but really didn’t excite anyone too and that isn’t just really a great plan .

Now she probably wins if their is a wave like 2010 and that’s what she seemed to be counting on which again isn’t really good strategy

- YH has already been unbanned

Actually, I was never banned.

1. As to the point about him not being a real conservative, there isnt much you can really say given trying to apply one definition of conservatism to a nation as huge as the US is just lol worthy. At the end of the day in a two party system, you are gonna have a coalition of different types of conservatives/liberals  and people have to understand this instead of trying to create purity tests .

2. The point he screwed the GOP is beyond lol worthy given how terrible shape the GOP was in the 48 years before Reagan and how the GOP basically controlled the political narrative for 28 years beginning with Reagan.

Hell down ballot the Democrats even from 08-10 were no where as dominant as they were from 78-80. So this point is completely false

Perspectives on why overwhelmingly Ancestral DEM places within Coos County and Columbia County flipped / swung HARD PUB over the past couple decades while meanwhile many traditional Traditional PUB places within Metro PDX, 'burbs of Salem, Eugene, Corvallis, flipped / swung HARD DEM over the past couple decades.

Well a lot of that has to do with the larger national trend of affluent suburbs and college towns having trending pretty Democratic this century while working class areas and small towns has trended pretty Republican.

Given how nationalized our politics are these days, I am not surprised this trend has taken place in Oregon and I would say this trend here has more to do with the state of the national parties than the state ones.

Yes but.... #Timber Unity?

One could make an argument that Oregon Timber Wars is what first started to trigger the division among Upstate and Downstate OR, where Moderate PUBs used to be successful in the PDX 'Burbs and Conservative DEMs performed well in "Rural OR".

Another question:

Currently (9) out of a total (30) OR-STATE SEN along with (1) IND OR-STATE SEN are currently banned from running for reelection in Oregon, since Oregon voters overwhelmingly passed a bill punishing State lawmakers for not showing up for work.

Basically this means just about every single OR Republican State Senator is not able to run for reelection in either '24 or '26.

They are effectively log-jamming legislation which would codify reproductive right into Oregon law, move towards common sense gun-reform bills (Overwhelmingly supported by Oregon voters), etc...

Has the Oregon Republican Party destroyed themselves by supporting so many far-right political items to the point they are effectively not allowed to run for elected office again and won't even have candidates on the benches available to run for Statewide elected positions?

Oh there is a lot so depends where:

If you are in the Portland Area, I would say the Columbia River Gorge, Cannon Beach and Mt Hood are the best places to visit and they are all within an hour-hour and a half from downtown. Washington Park near downtown is also a great place as well.

Otherwise some great places are: Crater Lake, Painted Hills, Deschutes River (If you like rafting), Sand Dunes(in Florence, OR).

I honestly am not sure, and we will have to see this play out cause there are some terrible bills they are blocking(like that public camping bill)

What would have happened if Palpatine did not declare himself Emperor?

Well keep in mind the reason he did so is because at the end of the Clone Wars, his emergency powers would go away and he'd have to leave office as one of the emergency powers was the fact he could stay in office past the end of his term.

So if he didn't that means the Jedi Order never gets wiped out and the Sith never rise.
