We all know that Gerald Ford selected former Governor of New York, Nelson A. Rockefeller to be Vice President of the United States. When Ford dumped Rockefeller to gain some conservative ground, President Ford selected Kansas Senator Bob Dole. Many people judge this as one of the worst mistakes in history. There were many other good choices out their such as Howard Baker, Ronald Reagan (highly unlikely), George H.W. Bush, even the mention of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld! If I was Gerry Ford, I would have gone with Howard Baker. But I have always wondered why Dole? Discuss who Gerry Ford could have selected to be his running mate apart from Dole.
