He was stronger in several rural counties with Democratic traditions- he polled 44 percent in Butler, where Kerry received 26 percent. Lancaster follows the classic university pattern in other ways, though, as it was the best county for Anderson and Nader.

Maybe it was Mondale then.

Despite also being Anderson's best. Impressive. They probably knew Reagan pretty well. Smiley

Cheesy Yeah, Reagan barely cracked 50 percent.

btw, he carried my county 44-42. Anderson took 10 percent, but that wasn't the reason- an antinuke activist won 3 percent, his second-best showing in the country. Mondale won 51-49 in '84.

Where does Nevada have its state uni? Nebraska? Wyoming?

University of Nevada is in Reno with a branch campus in Las Vegas.

Nevada State College is located in Henderson, but has about 1,500 students and is in a very suburban area.

And Nebraska and Wyoming have their state universities in Lincoln and Laramie respectively--not sure of the counties though.

Assuming Laramie, Wyoming is in Laramie County, Bush won U. of Wyoming's county, 65-33.

Kind of surprising that Boone County, MO is not more Democratic. Kerry only did a few points better there than in the state as a whole

It just barely missed going to Kerry, who did terrible in rural Missouri, just not Oklahoma bad. The university in Boone is what makes it more liberal than the surrounding counties.

Wyoming's State school is in Albany County, in the city of Laramie. It is much more Democratic than the state as a whole. Laramie County has the capital (Cheyenne) and a military base, its less Democratic.

Virginia Tech itself is Democratic, though, as is most of Blacksburg.

Radford is public.  Kerry won the precinct containing the university and east site of the city (Virginia precincts are big), 50.6%-48.6%.
