Maximum Wage Law of 2023

Fairness for workers:
1. This bill will be known as the Maximum Wage Law of 2023.
2. Under this law, the following provisions will take place:
A. The Head (CEO, president, superintendent etc) will not be able to make >10x that of the hourly wage of the lowest paid  employee.
B.  The non-head worker with the  highest authority (principal, head manager etc) will not be able to make >5x more  than the hourly wage of the lowest paid employee
C. A boss/manager/immediate employer would not be able to make more than 2x more than the wage of their lowest paying employee. Exceptions may be made if their boss fits in category B.
D. Companies will be required to pay men and women in the same role equally and report annual earnings to the governors office. Any failure to pay the same wage, as determined by clear and convincing evidence in a court of law, will result in a 50% corporate tax for the rest of the fiscal year.

Implementation:
This bill will take place effective immediately

I'll be opposing this as it effectively bans being wealthy. While Lincoln has had a wealth tax at certain points in its history, we have never gone as far as outright banning having income above a certain amount or imposing taxes of 100%. Success should not be punished to this degree.

Thank you Speaker Dwarven. It is unfortunate that we are at a place where we need to crack down at the affluent but we have unfortunately arrived. For far too long the 1% has profited off of extravagant  wealth while the poorest individuals struggle to survive off scraps of food. With the targeting of excessive wealth which can be used to help with deficit shrinking, we can head in a direction of fiscal responsibility as well as the consideration that while the rich are getting richer, the poor are not.

With all due respect to your opposition, I am open to eliminating the Curbing Greed section. That way individuals who make greater than $460,000 can keep their wealth but must still share their wealth with those who may be struggling to get by.

Curbing Greed:

Mr. Speaker,

I stand in strong opposition to this act.  Not only does it ban "being wealthy", it places gross and incomprehensible penalties on any kind of financial success.  And who are we to tell private industries how much money they are allowed to make?

I yield.

I object to the motion, and would like clarification from the gentleman as to the definitions of "boss" and "head".  What is the difference, as the terms are used in this bill?

I'd like to add Reactionary's clause which would keep the curb greed clause for lawyers and politicians. While the no bought politicians act covers politicians, this will close any potential loopholes as well as prevent attorney's from making any unnecessary profit , make it tougher for them to accept bribes and collect excessive gifts.

Boss = Immediate supervisor
Head = Whoever is the highest ranking/authority employee in the building
