What I'm asking is more like: if you lived in a country with one of the 4 characteristics above 'taken to the max', which would you like best?

I say I would like living in an extremist social liberal place... to me, it seems natural that with social equality comes eventual economic equality Smiley

Anyway, I hope you get the question Tongue

You're absolutely right, kev. Before we can make sure that people are provided for, and treated as equal material partners in humanity, we have to change those attitudes which stifle that kind of thinking. So, I believe social reform should be the top priority.

I love extreme social liberalism and extreme economic 'conservatism'.

Social Liberal, as even though I would strongly disagree with the extreme of this viewpoint, it's the least dangerous of all of the above.

The world society becoming more liberal is inevitable and is the key to the progress of humankind.  We always need to move forward, not hold to stupid beliefs and traditions.  I personally find it incredibly stupid we still have "swear" words.

I agree with this. Generally, a liberal society, liberal in the European sense, isn't all that dangerous since it tends to be self-regulating. But complete economic freedom would probably cause more conflicts and problems than social freedom.

Although "Extremism in the defense of liberty" is stupidity, I say economic Conservatism.

Fiscal conservativism beats social liberalism by a nose at the line.

Then again, if I ask myself this question 2 hrs from now...social liberalism might win.

kind of tough. Do people like Catherine MacKinnon and Pete Singer classify as extremist social liberal? If so, economic liberalism. Otherwise, social liberalism.

None of the above would be my first choice.  I want to live in a world where I'm free to live my life as I see fit, where individual liberty and personal responsibility are highly valued.

However If I live in a world where hard work is rewarded and the government lets me conduct my business affairs without interference, then I'll be able to become rich and afford whatever bribes are necessary to have whatever social freedoms I want in private.  Still this is far from acceptable IMHO.

Complete economic freedom is bad in my opinion. I agree with the free market, but you need regulations. Otherwise you would have a situation where a country is effectively controlled by a few massive corporations.

Some of you guys are missing the point.  Not 'what would you like to live under?', but 'what's the best?', or even 'what is the least bad?'
